A compendium of topics in esoteric astrology, it explores the emerging universal spirituality, gradually unfolding through the current decades as seen from the perspective of topical world events, even though the principles investigated therein are timeless. The twelve astrological signs each give a unique insight into various aspects of spirituality, and each one has its own story to tell on the great evolutionary path of the soul. Because the soul is so dear to us, even though the subject matter of the book is esoteric in its presentation, there is something in its pages for everyone, whether or not you have an astrological background. Ultimately, this book can be used as reference material for the times of the full moon each month and for specified times in between. The book is extensively indexed for ease of reference and it contains abundant reference material in the appendices, along with a glossary of esoteric terminology.

Traditional practitioners often failed to defend the veracity of the subject and dispel the scepticism of modern intellectuals. The ancient revelations have been restated here to meet contemporary requirements. The ancient seers presented Vedic Astrology under various assumptions and in allegorical and symbolic languages. They assumed polydimensional extension of human consciousness which was closely related with planetary impulses. Apart from the general approach to this ancient science, the study presents in depth the astrological description of the nature of man. It also provides deeper implications of various planetary combinations. Advanced practitioners as well as general readers will find the book informative, illuminating and highly rewarding.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A groundbreaking exploration of a practice tradition that was nearly lost to history. Theravada Buddhism, often understood as the school that most carefully preserved the practices taught by the Buddha, has undergone tremendous change over time. Prior to Western colonialism in Asia—which brought Western and modernist intellectual concerns, such as the separation of science and religion, to bear on Buddhism—there existed a tradition of embodied, esoteric, and culturally regional Theravada meditation practices. This once-dominant traditional meditation system, known as borān kammatthāna, is related to—yet remarkably distinct from—Vipassana and other Buddhist and secular mindfulness practices that would become the hallmark of Theravada Buddhism in the twentieth century. Drawing on a quarter century of research, scholar Kate Crosby offers the first holistic discussion of borān kammatthāna, illuminating the historical events and cultural processes by which the practice has been marginalized in the modern era.

Book excerpt: Esoteric Astrology – A New Astrology for a New Millennium Volume One - The Signs, Planets and Houses of the Horoscope This publication takes a new and revitalised look at astrology. It is simple to understand, yet remains a powerful tool, capable of providing a solid foundation for the comprehension of this broad and magnificent subject. This textbook, like most of Dr. Baker’s printed books, eBooks and DVDs, enhances your studies via many charts, lists, tables and images (over 100 in this one). This major work is a very comprehensive introduction for those who want to study this subject in earnest, and for the more advanced student it will serve as an essential reference manual. In today's computer-based world it is no longer necessary to spend hours calculating a horoscope when the most modest PCs can do it in seconds, and with 100% accuracy! Consequently the needless paraphernalia, usually associated with learning astrology, has been stripped away. Emphasis is placed on the application of astrology to the unique problems of the modern world, its use as a method of revealing purpose and meaning in life, and ultimately as a key to the psychosynthesis of personality. The horoscope is described in comprehensive detail, with special attention given to the esoteric ruling planets of the zodiac signs, which are more relevant than orthodox rulers in the charts of spiritually-minded people. The new rulers also accommodate the immense changes in external conditions and inner consciousness that have occurred in the last hundred years and are related to a new range of experience which the brain registers as the externa of the modern world. The significance of karma is represented for it gives dramatic effect to our daily actions, and the third factor of esoteric psychology, lying beyond our understanding of heredity and environment, is given full prominence. This integrative and enriching work can be read alone, as a fascinating introduction and foundation to the New Astrology, or can be followed up with the author's extensive range of astrological books and video tapes, audio lectures and the all-embracing Dictionary of Astrology for the 21st Century. Together they provide a complete system for the professional and novice alike, containing efficient and extraordinary techniques of interpretation which have never been used before and which halve the time required to assimilate and practise astrology.

Book excerpt: If you are interested in understanding more about your true self, the purpose of life and your spiritual path, Esoteric Astrology is the book for you. You will be guided into a deeper dimension of astrology and the spiritual laws behind all life, for example the law of reincarnation and karma. There is a great difference between esoteric astrology that interprets the horoscope from the viewpoint of the soul, and traditional astrology that often is preoccupied with outer events and the desires and reactions of the outer self. An esoteric astrologer looks for the purpose of the soul, and the inner causes behind what happens to you in life. What are your talents and limitations, so that you can make use of and increase your good sides and eliminate or limit the bad habits. The book is written in a simple language, it is a beginner’s guide to astrology. You will need no previous knowledge about astrology to read this book. This book is meant for anyone who is interested in spirituality and astrology. But it is also recommended for you who have studied astrology and wish to add a spiritual dimension to the subject. This book includes many important areas, such as: human relations, how to cast a horoscope, diseases, the purpose of life, and an esoteric interpretation of the signs. The book helps you to understand more about yourself. But to this is added astrology for humanity and nations, how astrological energies are influencing and are determinative for society. From the perspective of a spiritual background, this is indeed an entirely new way of looking at our civilization.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chinese Esoteric Buddhism is generally held to have been established as a distinct and institutionalized Buddhist school in eighth-century China by “the Three Great Masters of Kaiyuan”: Śubhākarasiṃha, Vajrabodhi, and Amoghavajra. Geoffrey C. Goble provides an innovative account of the tradition’s emergence that sheds new light on the structures and traditions that shaped its institutionalization. Goble focuses on Amoghavajra (704–774), contending that he was the central figure in Esoteric Buddhism’s rapid rise in Tang dynasty China, and the other two “patriarchs” are known primarily through Amoghavajra’s teachings and writings. He presents the scriptural, mythological, and practical aspects of Chinese Esoteric Buddhism in the eighth century and places them in the historical contexts within which Amoghavajra operated. By telling the story of Amoghavajra’s rise to prominence and of Esoteric Buddhism’s corresponding institutionalization in China, Goble makes the case that the evolution of this tradition was predicated on Indic scriptures and practical norms rather than being the product of conscious adaptation to a Chinese cultural environment. He demonstrates that Esoteric Buddhism was employed by Chinese rulers to defeat military and political rivals. Based on close readings of a broad range of textual sources previously untapped by English-language scholarship, this book overturns many assumptions about the origins of Chinese Esoteric Buddhism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores trans-cultural and cross-border transformation of Esoteric Buddhism in East Asia, focusing on the significance of Esoteric Buddhism in relation to some forms of material culture, including rituals, arts, and the construction of sacred space and narratives. In East Asia, Esoteric Buddhism’s influences can be seen across all levels of society: not only in that it achieved a recognizable sectarian identity, but also because elements of esoteric teachings were absorbed by other religious schools, influencing their philosophical tenets and everyday practices. The influence was not confined to the religious sphere: scholars have been paying more and more attention to the significance of Tang Esoteric Buddhism in relation to material culture and the dissemination of Esoteric Buddhist technologies in South, Central, and East Asia. No matter how one looks at a maṇḍala—an integral feature of esoteric practice—or the uncannily expressive statues of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas or Yidam that come in all shapes and sizes, or the murals that depict the variegated, mysterious themes of the esoteric tradition, one can always recognise the profound connection between art and Esoteric Buddhism. Esoteric Influences also abound in East Asian literature across different genres, displaying its unique characters both in poetry and prose. Likewise, in architecture, one can readily make out the enigmatic, colorful and distinctive elements characteristic of the esoteric tradition. Monks initiated into the esoteric lineages not only brought Buddhist classics and practices to China, but also advanced knowledge in astronomy, calendarial calculations and mathematical theories. The chapters in this volume investigate the profound and far-reaching impacts wrought by Esoteric Buddhism on rituals, arts, and the construction of sacred space and narratives in East Asia. This book will be beneficial to advanced students and researchers interested in Religious Studies, History and Buddhist studies. It was originally published as a special issue of Studies in Chinese Religions.

Book excerpt: Transitional Astrology is a book about context. That context is the Universe, in which we take our place and find our purpose. The knowledge, the Ageless Wisdom, is as old as Man; the structures are those of Esoteric Astrology, written by Master D.K. through Alice Bailey. This work aims to work shows how these esoteric perspectives can be made to enhance the role of orthodox astrology as a spiritual tool, and encourages the idea that when we can see our place in the larger scheme, we will have a better understanding of our potential, collectively and individually, and of how to use life and time wisely. Transitional Astrology is recommended to astrology practitioners, and to students with a working knowledge of horoscopy.
