Book Synopsis Escritos de arte de vanguardia, 1900/1945 by : Ángel González García
Download or read book Escritos de arte de vanguardia, 1900/1945 written by Ángel González García and published by Ediciones AKAL. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Minimalism DesignSource by : Encarna Castillo
Download or read book Minimalism DesignSource written by Encarna Castillo and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2004-09-28 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term Minimalism has not always been used in a favorable sense, especially in architecture, and even today it may be the cause of some confusion and ambiguity. The problem comes from the word’s use in defining a creative current, school or trend when in fact it refers to an aesthetic. At the same time, this aesthetic is not chronologically well defined either and, moreover, interacts with different disciplines. This explains why we find minimalist buildings in periods very far apart from each other and in architects as different as Tadao Ando, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Jacques Herzog & Pierre de Meuron or Luis Barragán, among others. Minimalism DesignSource investigates the minimalism movement, covering the last years of the decade of the 1990s and the first years of the twenty-first century to inquires into the origins of the term minimalism and in how the minimalism phenomenon played out in other fields like art, painting, fashion, and sculpture has affected minimalism in architecture, define the result of the use of pure and simple lines, the reduction of language elements and, as far as architecture is concerned, the investigation of the treatment of space and of building possibilities.

Book Synopsis My Kind of Sound by : Enrique Encabo
Download or read book My Kind of Sound written by Enrique Encabo and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-11-24 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the importance and significance that music has in our lives. The relationship between music and identity is based on conceptions about meanings and identification, especially powerful when connected with youth and popular music. We narrate ourselves in a musical way and we must study ‘music as culture’ rather than ‘music in culture’. The contributions to this book attend to emerging phenomena such as the rise of the Reggaeton music around the world, the importance of music in anime media, and music industry changes and uncertainties in the new millennium. Music is art, but it is also an industry and a business, and the two are intertwined: through the sale of tickets, original formulas are obtained and, in the same way, products (not just musical, but multimedia) are born from alternative culture, eventually becoming mainstream. In addition, this book also takes into account iconic artists such as Nirvana, David Bowie or Miley Cyrus, and the important contribution of music to the narrative and success of popular TV series, analysing cases such as Babylon Berlin and Vikings. From Blade Runner (1982) to current television mainstream productions, the music-image alliance does not only satisfy and distract us, but also challenges us and forces us to rethink our view of the world.
Book Synopsis Barcelona and Madrid by : Aránzazu Ascunce
Download or read book Barcelona and Madrid written by Aránzazu Ascunce and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2012 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For hundreds of years, Barcelona and Madrid have shared a deep rivalry. Throughout history, they have competed in practically every aspect of social life, sport, politics, and culture. While competition between cities is commonplace in many nations around the world, in the case of Barcelona and Madrid it has been, on occasion, excessively antagonistic. Over time they have each tried to demonstrate that one was more modern than the other, or more avant-garde, or richer, or more athletic, and so on. Fortunately, the Spain of today is a democracy and every nation and region of the State has the liberty to act. As such, the rivalry between these two capitals has become productive not only for the cities themselves, but also for Spain as a whole. One hundred years ago, at the onset of the Historical Avant-Garde in Spain, the connections between Barcelona and Madrid consisted of a complicated web of politics, friendships, publications, and inter-art collaborations. Over the last century, the antagonistic relationship between these two cultural capitals has been dismissed as simply a fact of life and thereby scholars, for the most part, have focused only on Barcelona or Madrid when addressing this cultural moment. By delving deep into the myriad of cultural and political complexities that surround these two cities from the onset of Futurism (1909) to the arrival of Surrealism in Spain (1929), a complex social and cultural network is revealed. Networking between artists, poets, journalists and thinkers connected avant-garde Barcelona and Madrid, thereby creating synergy for this artistic and literary movement. In a hybrid, transdisciplarian, translingual and historical approach using a wide range of visual and textual artifacts, the complexity of interactions described here opens our imagination to new ways of thinking about culture.

Book Synopsis New Geographies of Abstract Art in Postwar Latin America by : Mariola V. Alvarez
Download or read book New Geographies of Abstract Art in Postwar Latin America written by Mariola V. Alvarez and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-09-27 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume examines the history of abstract art across Latin America after 1945. This form of art grew in popularity across the Americas in the postwar period, often serving to affirm a sense of being modern and the right of Latin America to assume the leading role Europe had played before World War II. Latin American artists practiced gestural and geometric abstraction, though the history of art has favored the latter. Recent scholarship, for instance, has focused on geometric abstraction from Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela. The book aims to expand the map and consider this phenomenon as it developed in neglected regions such as Central America and the Andes, investigatinghow this style came to stand in for Latin American contemporary art.
