Book excerpt: This is the story of how the parables of a penniless nomad were transformed into a religion that worships the money changers like a golden calf, and how the wolf devoured the sheep by pretending to be both the shepherd and the "lamb of God." Like the proverbial leopard that sought to change his spots, P. Michael Heffron sheds the skin of his old beliefs by ruthlessly doubting his way out of the very prison he had spent his entire life believing his way into. To do that, he plumbed the depths of the many different belief-paradigms into which he had been born, in order to discover who had built them, how, when, and why. By doing so, he came to discover the difference between truth and his beliefs; between "God" and people's "beliefs" about God; and why today only an atheist can be a Christian. In short, this book is as much a tour of the Mütter Museum that is the human mind, and how one man's quest to answer the question "what is truth?" became the key to escaping the cross of his religious beliefs, as it is a stone, cast at the many Goliaths of everything he used to believe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a testimony to what I went through for nearly 35 years of my life. I have seen and witnessed hundreds of others struggling with many of these same things. My title: "Escaping Religion Prison" is not only me sharing what I experienced, but also what I've heard from others whom I have personally interviewed, or heard when they shared their story. I am not here to say that all religion is a terrible thing, but a religion in itself won't save you, or anyone else for that matter. I have found a completely new freedom in my relationship with Jesus, and have experienced a new peace as I have traveled this journey from deception to clear vision, and from religious bondage to complete spiritual freedom. I will do my best to convey what I have seen and heard. So please be patient with me as there is a lot to share. I am also going to share some of the disgusting parts of religion and its major cover-up of the abuses which often go on behind the scenes in religious circles. I also want to point out that this isn't all-inclusive as you wouldn't want a massive 6000-page manual to read. So I am going to try to be somewhat brief, yet cover in detail what I have personally seen and heard. In the first half of this book, I am going to share the abuses I see in the church. One of the biggest problems in the church today is how religion and church standards are often emphasized and taught over a relationship with the one who can redeem us. You see, religion isn't what saves one's soul. If you believe that the church you attend, or the preacher or leader you follow, is the only right one, or that he has a special edge on scripture and its interpretation, you might find that this book will challenge the way you think. This is a great book for discussion among church leadership, as it's much better to have a plan before a situation happens.

You might be a prisoner of feeling that you are just living out religion without a real sense of relationship with God. The truth is, spiritual bondage comes in many forms. This book is about escaping spiritual bondage. It is designed to help you see that you were not an accident. You were created in God's image. You have a destiny designed by Him. He has made all the provisions needed to experience relationship and fellowship with Him.This book is about finding a scriptural way out of spiritual bondage. It is about finding spiritual freedom even in the grips of earthly captivity. This type of escape, this type of true freedom, can only be found in Jesus the Christ. Book excerpt: This book is for Christians. While I hope that many who are not Christians may read it and be drawn into the freedom found in fellowship with Christ, my principal goal is to reach Christians who hunger and thirst after the meaningful life of freedom in Christ that they never seem to attain. It is for all who stumble and fall, who think they can't get up but hate lying there. It is for those who have squandered their lives living everyone else's dreams but have never lived their own calling in Christ. It is for those who have fought for freedoms but still are not free. It is my prayer that this book will help God's people become what they are meant to be in Christ: FREE!

Book excerpt: Do you feel trapped in life? Do you live in persistent doubt of your ability to breakthrough? Do you live in constant anticipation of failure, accident, death, sickness or fear of what you don't know? If your answer is yes to any of these, Escaping Your Prison was inspired by the Holy Spirit as your way of escape. In this book, you will encounter some truths that will set you free from the bondage of fear.¿Fear is neither physiological or natural, or a problem of feelings: ¿it is a spiritual affliction. It is an assault of the devil against the minds of its victims. Fear imprisons someone within himself or herself. Fear can paralyze the greatest potential of any unsuspecting believer. If you don't stop it, it will stop you from experiencing the fullness of your colorful destiny. Satan's plan is to try to make you believe in a non-existing cloud of lies contrary to the knowledge of God and to blindfold you from seeing the treasures of God in your life.¿The solution to spiritual diseases are not natural remedies. Through the help of the Holy Spirit, the revelation shared in this book will expose the strategy - and weakness - of Satan and his efforts to stop you from establishing your dominion in life.¿There are more working in your favor than those working against. God is on your side!

Book excerpt: Bound to Be Free uses Scripture to recalibrate our hearts so we can walk in the freedom Christ has provided from sin and from the encumbrances that weigh us down. There’s nothing more heartbreaking than to see saints who are bound by performance, not realizing there is freedom through Christ. In the midst of performance, we try to please everyone, to do what we think makes God happy, to live a “good” life . . . and we don’t realize that the walls are closing in around us. There are four walls in the trap of performance: our trajectory, our relationships, our affirmation, and our peers. Each of these speaks deeply to our souls as something we need in order to have a “good life”—but we enslave ourselves to something that will never be enough. Instead, God invites us into the trap of grace, which frees us. The life-giving walls of this trap are trust in God, reconciliation with God, affection from God, and partnership with our brothers and sisters in Christ. As we acknowledge how we are bound by performance, we can—with God’s help—flee into the captivity of grace and rest in God’s unfailing love.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is simply to show that the problems in the world do not lie in the external environment and those inhabiting it, but in our own mind. Our attitudes will affect others positively or negatively. Therefore, we must try to abandon negative thoughts, such as greed, anger, lust, attachment, and closed mindedness. And develop beneficial attitudes, such as love, compassion, kindness, and forgiveness. In this book, I do point out some negative aspects that we are currently facing in the world. My intention is not to make any of us sad, discouraged, or upset, but to really illustrate how our actions and way of thinking truly affect us and the world. In doing so, I hope that we choose to become more aware of our thoughts, speech, and actions. And to aspire to become good human beings who function well in society and live harmoniously with others.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to Hebrews, the Son of God appeared to "break the power of him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil--and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death." What does it mean to be enslaved, all our lives, to the fear of death? And why is this fear described as "the power of the devil"? And most importantly, how are we--as individuals and as faith communities--to be set free from this slavery to death? In another creative interdisciplinary fusion, Richard Beck blends Eastern Orthodox perspectives, biblical text, existential psychology, and contemporary theology to describe our slavery to the fear of death, a slavery rooted in the basic anxieties of self-preservation and the neurotic anxieties at the root of our self-esteem. Driven by anxiety--enslaved to the fear of death--we are revealed to be morally and spiritually vulnerable as "the sting of death is sin." Beck argues that in the face of this predicament, resurrection is experienced as liberation from the slavery of death in the martyrological, eccentric, cruciform, and communal capacity to overcome fear in living fully and sacrificially for others.

By combining proven therapeutic techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with ancient mindfulness practices, NMT empowers anxiety sufferers by liberating them from unhealthy “thought myths” to help them create sustainable, life-changing habits. Backed by recent scientific proof that meditation has a transformative effect on the physical brain, Suzanne demystifies the practice of meditation and demonstrates its power as a viable alternative to synthetic medications for treating anxiety. After years of experience helping patients at the Betty Ford Center and other clinical settings, and recognition for her success from the top experts in the field, Suzanne Jesses now offers an affordable and accessible in-home treatment program to heal those who suffer from the devastating effects of anxiety disorders.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Schouls limits himself to a discussion of these three concepts in order to escape facile and vague generalizations. For the same reason, in relating Descartes to eighteenth-century thinkers, Schouls limits his attention to a single part of the spectrum of acknowledged Enlightenment reflection, the French "philosopes." From their writings he demonstrates that they are, and acknowledge themselves to be, Descartes' progeny.
