Las escalas de evaluación que se presentan están rigurosamente validadas dentro de la metodología propia de las escalas de Rasch, que es el procedimiento utilizado. Estas escalas permiten tender un puente entre una evaluación cualitativa, basada en la apreciación subjetiva de la adecuación del movimiento a propósitos concretos, y las posibilidades de cuantificación que ofrecen los test y pruebas convencionales de carácter cuantitativo. Las escalas de tareas que se recogen en esta obra pueden ser una ayuda significativa para el profesorado de Educación Física en la difícil labor de evaluar adecuadamente los progresos de los escolares en el desarrollo de su competencia motriz.
