Para aislar estos errores se "crearon" 60.000 alumnos repartidos en cuatro colegios (15.000 alumnos por colegio) y de cada alumno se trataron las calificaciones de inteligencia y rendimiento. El tratamiento estadisticos y creacion de la poblacion fue a traves de un ordenador compatible IBM PC. Todos los experimentos se basaron en la realizacion de cinco programas creados por el autor para el presente trabajo. El trabajo se divide en cinco tomos. De lo adecuadas que sean estas muestras dependerá la exactitud de las inferencias realizadas. La base matemática de la realización de inferencias es la teoría de la probabilidad. Sus autores han querido que se trate de una obra de carácter más aplicado que teórico, lo que no significa eliminar el estudio de las bases de aplicación y quedarse en un plano meramente recetario. Según sus autores, cuánto mejor se conozcan el origen y los presupuestos de una determinada técnica estadística más probabilidades existen de utilizarla correctamente. Como novedad importante, los autores incorporan en los diferentes capítulos un apartado final con la resolución informática (esquema de acción y salida de datos) de los ejercicios propuestos en el texto, completando la resolución “manual” que han planteado para la presentación de la técnica estudiada.
