Y., who has contributed several years in compiling this book and making the Index, great thanks are due for his long, tedious, and painstaking labor in making searches of records, and an immense amount of correspondence, while at the same time suffering from greatly impaired health. They much regret the long delay in publishing the Index. It being necessary to have searches made of Old public records in various places, in order to make corrections, it was thought best to delay the Index until all could be published at one time. The main cause of delay has been lack of money to pay cost of printing, binding, etc. The book being SO much larger than at first supposed, it has been necessary to increase the price from 5 to 5, and also to ask for advance payment for the same. The Historian desires to say that some of the earliest New England families are erroneously placed and given in the History. All this has, been corrected and explained in the Errata, as far as records have been found to Show the errors. In some towns of New England, church and other records are lost; so a few families cannot be correctly placed, like No. 17 Daniel, No. 2 3 Jonathan, etc.; or members of some families given.
