Book excerpt: "The Columbus Laboratories, Battelle Memorial Institute, originally prepared these reports in 1965 and later revised them, updating the information to include the latest technology through 1968. This report is one of a series pertaining to the fabricating of nickel, nickel-base, and cobalt-base alloys. This report deals with heat treating and working nickel and nickel-base alloys, and with the effects of these operations on the mechanical properties of the materials. The subjects covered are annealing, solution treating, stress relieving, stress equalizing, age hardening, hot working, cold working, combinations of working and heat treating (often referred to as thermomechanical treating), and properties of the materials at various temperatures. The equipment and procedures used in working the materials are discussed, along with the common problems that may be encountered and the precautions and corrective measures that are available."--Foreword.

Antolovich and published by . This book was released on 1983* with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High temperature low cycle fatigue (LCF) has been studied for directionally solidified (DS) and conventionally cast (CC) Rene' 80. For the conventionally cast material testing was carried out on smooth bars over the temperature range 75 F (24 C) to 1800 F (982 C). It was found that at low temperatures slip was planar and carbides acted as crack initiation sites. In correspondence with the importance of carbides on the fatigue life it was found that life cosrrelated best with total strain range (as opposed to plastic strain range).

Book Synopsis The Effect of Casting Temperature on the Fatigue Properties of Cast Nickel Aluminide Alloys by :
Download or read book The Effect of Casting Temperature on the Fatigue Properties of Cast Nickel Aluminide Alloys written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of high cycle fatigue tests at 650°C on several cast Ni3Al alloys are reported and compared to cast IN-713C. These alloys include IC-221M and several variations to the IC-221M composition. The effect of casting temperature is investigated using castings poured at three different temperatures spanning a 56°C range. The results show that IC-221M cast at the highest temperature has the best fatigue strength, exceeding that for IN-713C. In these alloys, crack initiation occurs at shrinkage microporosity and the effect of casting temperature on porosity is related to the observed differences in fatigue lives. 11 refs., 4 figs.
