Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation into the current status of environmental education in the Commonwealth, with specific reference to the role of networks in promoting environmental awareness. An investigation into the current provisions for environmental education in Commonwealth countries was undertaken, complemented by a survey aimed at assessing the contribution networks may provide in attempts to promote environmental education in Commonwealth countries. The research identified the fact that environmental education is a wide spread methodology in Commonwealth nations, despite the fact that in many countries, environmental education initiatives are yet to be systematically undertaken. It was also seen that a number of networks are playing a key role in the dissemination of environmental information in Commonwealth nations, although the lack of a Commonwealth-wide environmental education network prevents developments to occur in a sustainable manner. A set of recommendations that may assist with the systematic development of environmental education in Commonwealth nations is presented.

Book excerpt: The environment and contested notions of sustainability are increasingly topics of public interest, political debate, and legislation across the world. Environmental education journals now publish research from a wide variety of methodological traditions that show linkages between the environment, health, development, and education. The growth in scholarship makes this an opportune time to review and synthesize the knowledge base of the environmental education (EE) field. The purpose of this 51-chapter handbook is not only to illuminate the most important concepts, findings and theories that have been developed by EE research, but also to critically examine the historical progression of the field, its current debates and controversies, what is still missing from the EE research agenda, and where that agenda might be headed. Published for the American Educational Research Association (AERA).

Book excerpt: This book outlines the status quo of worldwide wildlife tourism and its impacts on planning, management, knowledge, awareness, behaviour and attitudes related to wildlife encounters. It sets out to fill the considerable gaps in our knowledge on wildlife tourism, applied ecology, and environmental education, providing comprehensive information on and an interdisciplinary approach to effective management in wildlife tourism. Examining the intricacies, challenges, and lessons learned in a meaningful and rewarding tourism niche, this interdisciplinary book comprehensively examines the major potentials and controversies in the wildlife tourism industry. Pursuing an insightful, provocative and hands-on approach, it primarily addresses two questions: ‘Can we reconcile the needs of the wildlife tourism industry, biodiversity conservation, ecological learning and animal ethics issues?’ and ‘What is the Future of the Wildlife Tourism Industry?’. Though primaril y intended as a research text, it also offers a valuable resource for a broad readership, which includes university and training students, researchers, scholars, tourism practitioners and professionals, planners and managers, as well as the staff of government agencies.
