This book was released on 1999 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper measures the impact of outward foreign direct investment (FDI) on Canadian exports. It uses a gravity model to measure the link between outward Canadian FDI and Canadian exports on a bilateral basis to 35 countries over the 1970-1996 period. The paper begins with a literature review. It then provides a description of the data, including a discussion of the aggregate data as well as the industrial distribution of Canada's trade and FDI. It examines the theoretical links between trade and FDI and provides empirical estimates of these links. Finally, it examines the possible welfare effects of outward FDI.

This book was released on 1999 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to identify and assess how closer economic integration between Canada and the United States as manifested in the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) may have affected bilateral migration flows between the two countries. The 2nd section provides a brief theoretical overview of the linkages between trade liberalisation and labour markets that, in turn, imply linkages with incentives to migrate. Section 3 discusses recent legislative changes affecting the incentives and abilities of Canadians to migrate to the United States, and briefly considers the associated welfare implications for Canada. Section 4 presents and evaluates data on bilateral migration patterns, especially temporary migration under the NAFTA. Section 5 briefly addresses the policy implications of temporary migration under the NAFTA.

Book Synopsis Can Small-country Manufacturing Survive Trade Liberalization? by : Keith Head
Download or read book Can Small-country Manufacturing Survive Trade Liberalization? written by Keith Head and published by Industrie Canada. This book was released on 1999 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper develops two theoretical models that offer opposing predictions about the effects of market size and tariff reductions on a country's share of production. It expands these models to include standard comparative advantage effects of trade liberalization. The models are evaluated using matched Canadian and US manufacturing data for the period 1990-1995. The paper first estimates the "border effect", or the barriers to trade, both tariff and non-tariff, that impede consumption of imported goods. It then tests the theoretical prediction of its two models. It examines the relationship between a Canadian industry's share of North American demand for that industry's goods and Canada's share of the output of that industry. In addition, it evaluates how tariffs influence this relationship.

Book Synopsis Rival States, Rival Firms by : John M. Stopford
Download or read book Rival States, Rival Firms written by John M. Stopford and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1991-10-17 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this theoretically original work, two distinguished authors explore the mutual interdependence of states and firms throughout the world. They show how global structural changes - in finance, technology, knowledge and politics - often impel governments to seek the help and cooperation of managers of multinational enterprises. Yet, as Professors Stopford and Strange demonstrate, this is constrained by each country's economic resources, its social structures and its political history. Based on grass-roots research into the experience of over 50 multinationals and more than 100 investment projects in three developing countries- Brazil, Malaysia and Kenya - the authors develop a matrix of agendas. They present the impact on projects of the multiple factors affecting the bargaining relationships between the government and the foreign firm at different times and in a variety of economic sectors. In conclusion they offer some guidelines for actions to both governments and firms and some points to future interdisciplinary research.

Book Synopsis PROMOTION DE LA SANTE ET AUTONOMISATION DANS LE CONTEXTE AFRICAIN by : David HouŽto
Download or read book PROMOTION DE LA SANTE ET AUTONOMISATION DANS LE CONTEXTE AFRICAIN written by David HouŽto and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
