This book was released on 1994 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Configuration describes the elements that make up the system being managed -- be it the hardware elements, software elements, or others. Almost all aspects of systems management deal with configuration as the subject matter. Since configuration information thus serves as a unifying element, it was decided to investigate how to integrate systems management around configuration management. From the end user perspective this can be accomplished by presenting each aspect of systems management in terms of an associated configuration diagram, and having each configuration element (disk, workstation, etc.) represented in such a way as to indicate the functioning of that particular element with regard to the aspect of interest (e.g. by colors, labels or associated graphics). A performance management application window would thus present the configuration and label the appropriate elements according to how well they functioned from a performance perspective. A fault management application would similarly present the configuration and label the appropriate elements according to their fault status; viz., working as expected, suffering degraded operation, or not working. Applications handling other disciplines (change management, operations management and business management) would analogously present configuration diagrams by capturing their specific considerations. Integration between any two disciplines would be accomplished through their respective relationships with configuration information. For example, performance and fault information for the same element can be compared by noting the representation of the configuration element on the performance application view and on the fault management view. The integration of the systems management applications is based on an interconnected data model. We outline the design for this approach and describe a configuration management prototype that addresses critical issues of this design. The prototype manages a configuration of servers (NFS) in a distributed UNIX environment. Another (performance management) prototype that demonstrates key issues of our design is also described. The indicated approach provides a basis for the integration of systems management applications. This approach is particularly important for enterprise wide systems management where the scope of integration is wide. We discuss the major issues of configuration management, and also a number of remaining issues in enterprise wide systems management."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enterprise Process Management Systems: Engineering Process-Centric Enterprise Systems using BPMN 2.0 proposes a process-centric paradigm to replace the traditional data-centric paradigm for Enterprise Systems (ES)--ES should be reengineered from the present data-centric enterprise architecture to process-centric process architecture to be called as Enterprise Process Management Systems (EPMS). The real significance of business processes can be understood in the context of current heightened priority on digital transformation or digitalization of enterprises. Conceiving the roadmap to realize a digitalized enterprise via the business model innovation becomes amenable only from the process-centric view of the enterprise. This pragmatic book: Introduces Enterprise Process Management Systems (EPMS) solutions that enable an agile enterprise. Describes distributed systems and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) that paved the road to EPMS. Leverages SOA to explain the cloud-based realization of business processes in terms of Web Services. Describes how BPMN 2.0 addresses the requirements for agility by ensuring a seamless methodological path from process requirements modeling to execution and back (to enable process improvements). Presents the spreadsheet-driven Spreadsheeter Application Development (SAD) methodology for the design and development of process-centric application systems. Describes process improvement programs ranging right from disruptive programs like BPR to continuous improvement programs like lean, six sigma and TOC. Enterprise Process Management Systems: Engineering Process-Centric Enterprise Systems using BPMN 2.0 describes how BPMN 2.0 can not only capture business requirements but it can also provide the backbone of the actual solution implementation. Thus, the same diagram prepared by the business analyst to describe the business’s desired To-Be process can also be used to automate the execution of that process on a modern process engine.
