Book Synopsis Daniel Cosío Villegas: by : James W. Wilkie
Download or read book Daniel Cosío Villegas: written by James W. Wilkie and published by El Colegio de Mexico AC. This book was released on 2013-09-19 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Ensayos sobre crítica literaria by : Antonio Alatorre
Download or read book Ensayos sobre crítica literaria written by Antonio Alatorre and published by El Colegio de Mexico AC. This book was released on 2013-08-24 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis This Ghostly Poetry by : Daniel Aguirre-Otezia
Download or read book This Ghostly Poetry written by Daniel Aguirre-Otezia and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2020-04-02 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Spanish Civil War was idealized as a poet’s war. The thousands of poems written about the conflict are memorable evidence of poetry’s high cultural and political value in those historical conditions. After Franco’s victory and the repression that followed, numerous Republican exiles relied on the symbolic agency of poetry to uphold a sense of national identity. Exilic poems are often read as claim-making narratives that fit national literary history. This Ghostly Poetry critiques this conventional understanding of literary history by arguing that exilic poems invite readers to seek continuity with a traumatic past just as they prevent their narrative articulation. The book uses the figure of the ghost to address temporal challenges to historical continuity brought about by memory, tracing the discordant, disruptive ways in which memory is interwoven with history in poems written in exile. Taking a novel approach to cultural memory, This Ghostly Poetry engages with literature, history, and politics while exploring issues of voice, time, representation, and disciplinarity.
Book Synopsis José Carlos Mariátegui by : Deni Alfaro Rubbo
Download or read book José Carlos Mariátegui written by Deni Alfaro Rubbo and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-30 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the life, work, and impact of the Peruvian thinker José Carlos Mariátegui (1894–1930), particularly his political biography, his intellectual production, and his critique of Eurocentrism. This posthumous fame is based on the idea that, in the whole of his political-theoretical project, the relationship between Latin America and Marxism was not built using a mechanical linking of effects and causes, of the blatant copy of the theory produced in Europe, of the immediate application of positivist formulas. In this complex relationship, enigmatic and insinuating, a dissonant historical temporality emerged in Latin America. The apparently unbalanced temporalities marked the matrix of capitalist exploitation, but also present, in Mariátegui’s view, glimmers of future possibilities. This book is essential reading for scholars of social sciences and history interested in understanding the historical roots and political dilemmas of Latin American and European societies from the unique perspective of one of the greatest thinkers of the twentieth century.

Book Synopsis Aníbal Quijano by : Deni Alfaro Rubbo
Download or read book Aníbal Quijano written by Deni Alfaro Rubbo and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-09 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the prominent thinkers in the Social Sciences, Aníbal Quijano (1930–2018), has a fundamental work for the compression of contemporary dilemmas since his main theoretical and political concerns have always been linked to the mutations of world capitalism and its reverse paths. This book aims to contribute with analyses of his voluminous and diversified production distributed practically over 60 years of intellectual trajectory. In the first decades, the Peruvian author produced essential works on peasant movements, the urbanization process, and the class structure in Peru and Latin America by mobilizing sociological categories such as marginality, dependency and structural heterogeneity. He devoted himself to investigating imperialist domination in Peru and its implications for social classes and created the journal Sociedad y Política. In the 1990s and 2000s, the Peruvian sociologist published a set of texts on the coloniality and decoloniality of power, which represents a theoretical construction inseparable from the processes and experiences that were occurring in Peru, Latin America and the world, from the “globalization” of “neoliberalism” to global and local resistances. Thus, this book is addressed to all those, with or without specialized training in social sciences, interested in knowing not only the history of social sciences in Latin America but mainly in understanding the historical roots and the political dilemmas of peripheral capitalist societies.
