Book Synopsis ENNEAS - Hero Quest by : Wolfgang W. Liebelt
Download or read book ENNEAS - Hero Quest written by Wolfgang W. Liebelt and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2018-12-05 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "ENNEAS - Hero Quest" was extracted from the book ENNEAS (Subtitle: Das Enneagramm Gurdjieffs - Sein universales systemisches Prozessmodell.) and deals with the Hero's Journey in combination with the Enneagram. This fusion of Gurdjieff's Enneagram with Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey", contains the key to designing your own development and transformation processes. Thus the Enneagram becomes a practical instrument of thinking, learning and personal inner growth. On a "more secular" level, the logic of the Enneagram, combined with the archetypal Hero's Journey, provides novels in particular with a solid foundation for an exciting narrative structure used in such successful films as Star Wars, The Lion King and The Lord of the Rings.

Book Synopsis The Conspiracy of Allusion: Description, Rewriting, and Authorship from Macrobius to Medieval Romance by : Douglas Kelly
Download or read book The Conspiracy of Allusion: Description, Rewriting, and Authorship from Macrobius to Medieval Romance written by Douglas Kelly and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-01 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chrétien de Troyes's reference to Macrobius on the art of description is indicative of the link between the vernacular literary tradition of rewriting and the Latin tradition of imitation. Crucial to this study are writings that bridge the span between elementary school exercises in imitation and the masterpieces of the art in Latin and French. The book follows the development of the medieval art of imitation through Macrobius and commentaries on Horace's Art of Poetry and then applies it to the interpretation of works on the Trojan War, consent in love and marriage, and lyric and vernacular insertions.
Book Synopsis Magic and Magicians in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Time by : Albrecht Classen
Download or read book Magic and Magicians in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Time written by Albrecht Classen and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are no clear demarcation lines between magic, astrology, necromancy, medicine, and even sciences in the pre-modern world. Under the umbrella term 'magic,' the contributors to this volume examine a wide range of texts, both literary and religious, both medical and philosophical, in which the topic is discussed from many different perspectives. The fundamental concerns address issue such as how people perceived magic, whether they accepted it and utilized it for their own purposes, and what impact magic might have had on the mental structures of that time. While some papers examine the specific appearance of magicians in literary texts, others analyze the practical application of magic in medical contexts. In addition, this volume includes studies that deal with the rise of the witch craze in the late fifteenth century and then also investigate whether the Weberian notion of disenchantment pertaining to the modern world can be maintained. Magic is, oddly but significantly, still around us and exerts its influence. Focusing on magic in the medieval world thus helps us to shed light on human culture at large.

Book Synopsis Masculinity and the Other by : Heather Ellis
Download or read book Masculinity and the Other written by Heather Ellis and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-01-14 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Histories of masculinity have generally examined both social ideologies of masculinity and subjective male identities within frameworks that define them against the feminine. Yet historians and sociologists have increasingly argued that men have been and continue to be defined both socially and subjectively as much by their relations to other men as in relation to women. This collection brings together the work of scholars of masculinities working in a variety of fields, including literature, history and art history, to examine some of the forms of 'otherness' against which ideas of masculinity have been defined throughout history. The collection reflects the current breadth of scholarship relating to the study of masculine alterity. While the subjects addressed are largely historical, the time span covered is broad and the disciplinary approaches to the subject matter are equally wide-ranging. A huge variety of men, masculine behaviours and definitions of masculinity are considered in an exciting and invigorating collection that showcases both established academics and emerging scholars in the field.

Book Synopsis Literary Objets D'art by : Linda M. Clemente
Download or read book Literary Objets D'art written by Linda M. Clemente and published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers. This book was released on 1992 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The genesis of this book was the coincidence of two readings: Virgil's Aeneid and Dante's Purgatorio. Each work includes descriptions of art objects, Daedalus' and God's artwork respectively. These descriptions, or ekphraseis, also occur frequently in Old French romances. Too long considered as embellishment or artistic virtuosity, they have received little rigorous critical attention. This book offers a step in that direction by analyzing the narrative significance of art objects in three very different works: the anonymous Eneas, Chrétien de Troyes' Erec et Enide, and Jean Renart's Escoufle. Along with intertextuality and mise en abyme, ekphrasis opens new avenues for interpreting this literature.
