Climate change can have catastrophic impacts in numerous cities across the world. It is time for us to react – quickly and effectively. The European Community (EC) has been leading the fight against climate change, making it one of its top priorities. We have introduced the most ambitious targets of their kind, known as the “20/20/20 by 2020” initiative within the “Climate Action and Renewable Energy Package.” As a result, European Member States have taken on a commitment to curb their CO emissions by at least 20% by 2020. 2 These targets are indeed commendable; however, they are only the start if we are to avoid the consequences of global warming. Whilst top level coordination from the European Institutions and Member State governments is vital, the role of mitigating and adapting to climate change at local level must not be forgotten. In fact, here cities, regions and their citizens play a significant a role. It is therefore vital they become directly involved in the climate change challenge. The European Commission therefore launched in 2008 a new initiative, the Covenant of Mayors, which brings together a network of European mayors in a voluntary effort to go beyond the European Union’s already ambitious targets. Half of our greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) are created in and by cities.

The workbook is organized into three sections which address diagnosis, program development, and implementation. By using the exercises provided, campus administrators can integrate "hard" data with "soft" local data about the campus history and organization lead to effective planning. These worksheets are targeted at the different members of the administrative team including the president, the business officer, and facilities director. The worksheets collect data regarding both current practices and desired future outcomes. These are accompanied by narratives that explain how to complete the worksheets and how to use the resulting data for planning. A glossary of terms is included. (Contains 110 references.) (JLS)
Book Synopsis Outsourcing Energy Management by : Steven Fawkes
Download or read book Outsourcing Energy Management written by Steven Fawkes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes energy management outsourcing as a way of addressing the current energy challenges facing all organizations, namely high and volatile energy prices, the need to mitigate climate change and potential supply constraints as oil production peaks. These problems are likely to intensify in the coming years, yet most organizations have reduced in-house capability to address them, thus outsourcing is increasingly seen as an essential part of any strategy to reduce energy use and carbon emissions. The author describes the basic processes of energy management and how to outsource them in a strategic way to achieve maximum results. The process is based on a new model of energy management looking at total costs, which is presented in the book. The book offers a comprehensive guide to outsourcing energy management, discussing the risks and benefits and taking managers through the process of deciding whether to outsource or not, and finding and assessing an outsourcing partner. Managers looking to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions through the use of external service providers will find Outsourcing Energy Management an ideal 'how to do it' guide.
