Book Synopsis Energy Balance in Motion by : Klaas R. Westerterp
Download or read book Energy Balance in Motion written by Klaas R. Westerterp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy balance can be maintained by adapting energy intake to changes in energy expenditure and vice versa, where short-term changes in energy expenditure are mainly caused by physical activity. Questions are whether physical activity is affected by over and under-eating, is intake affected by an increase or a decrease in physical activity, and does overweight affect physical activity? Presented evidence is largely based on studies where physical activity is quantified with doubly labeled water. Overeating does not affect physical activity while under-eating decreases habitual or voluntary physical activity. Thus, it is easier to gain weight than to lose weight. An exercise induced increase in energy requirement is compensated by intake while a change to a more sedentary routine does not induce an equivalent reduction of intake and generally results in weight gain. Overweight and obese subjects have similar activity energy expenditures than lean people despite they move less. There are two options to reverse the general population trend for an increasing body weight, reducing intake or increasing physical activity. Based on the results presented, eating less is most effective for preventing weight gain, despite a potential negative effect on physical activity when reaching a negative energy balance.

Download or read book Body Physics written by Lawrence Davis and published by . This book was released on 201? with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Body Physics was designed to meet the objectives of a one-term high school or freshman level course in physical science, typically designed to provide non-science majors and undeclared students with exposure to the most basic principles in physics while fulfilling a science-with-lab core requirement. The content level is aimed at students taking their first college science course, whether or not they are planning to major in science. However, with minor supplementation by other resources, such as OpenStax College Physics, this textbook could easily be used as the primary resource in 200-level introductory courses. Chapters that may be more appropriate for physics courses than for general science courses are noted with an asterisk symbol (*). Of course this textbook could be used to supplement other primary resources in any physics course covering mechanics and thermodynamics"--Textbook Web page.

Book Synopsis Electromechanical Motion Devices by : Paul C. Krause
Download or read book Electromechanical Motion Devices written by Paul C. Krause and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-03-04 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The updated third edition of the classic book that provides an introduction to electric machines and their emerging applications The thoroughly revised and updated third edition of Electromechanical Motion Devices contains an introduction to modern electromechanical devices and offers an understanding of the uses of electric machines in emerging applications such as in hybrid and electric vehicles. The authors—noted experts on the topic—put the focus on modern electric drive applications. The book includes basic theory, illustrative examples, and contains helpful practice problems designed to enhance comprehension. The text offers information on Tesla's rotating magnetic field, which is the foundation of reference frame theory and explores in detail the reference frame theory. The authors also review permanent-magnet ac, synchronous, and induction machines. In each chapter, the material is arranged so that if steady-state operation is the main concern, the reference frame derivation can be de-emphasized and focus placed on the steady state equations that are similar in form for all machines. This important new edition: • Features an expanded section on Power Electronics • Covers Tesla's rotating magnetic field • Contains information on the emerging applications of electric machines, and especially, modern electric drive applications • Includes online animations and a solutions manual for instructors Written for electrical engineering students and engineers working in the utility or automotive industry, Electromechanical Motion Devices offers an invaluable book for students and professionals interested in modern machine theory and applications.

Book Synopsis Biomimetics of Motion by : Sandra Persiani
Download or read book Biomimetics of Motion written by Sandra Persiani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-13 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides readers with a timely guide to the application of biomimetic principles in architecture and engineering design, and describes various aspects of motion in living systems. Geometric, mechanical and rhythmic parameters are listed and illustrated using examples from flora and fauna, and contextualized within an integrated mapping of biomechanical combinations that have proved their success in the course of evolution. For designers, the schemes identify those aspects that have a high probability of being efficiently combined, paving the way for new solutions and offering a method of evolutionary problem solving. The book guides readers through the field of nature-inspired design, offering an extraordinary resource for professional architects, engineers and designers, as well as for researchers and students. Throughout the book, natural evolution is approached as a powerful resource that can enrich architecture and design by providing innovative, optimal and sustainable solutions.
Book Synopsis Unsteady Motion of Continuous Media by : K. P. Stanyukovich
Download or read book Unsteady Motion of Continuous Media written by K. P. Stanyukovich and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-21 with total page 760 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unsteady Motion of Continuous Media covers the technical applications in the study of rapidly occurring processes in unsteady motion of continuous media. This 15-chapter text focuses on the detonation and explosion processes. The introductory chapters review the mathematical and thermodynamic methods of gas dynamics, as well as the fundamental equations of non-stationary gas dynamics. The succeeding chapters deal with the concept of self-similar motion, solutions of equations, one-dimensional isentropic motions, and the elementary theory of shock waves. Considerable chapters are devoted to the mechanisms and principles of detonation wave, its propagation and unsteady motion in condensed media. These topics are followed by discussions of the propulsion of bodies by a gas stream; the motion of gas in a gravitational field; and the limiting motion of rarefield and very dense media. The concluding chapter presents some problems in the relativistic mechanics of solid medium. This book will prove useful to physicists, applied mathematicians, and chemical engineers.
