Book excerpt: Procedures for Commercial Building Energy Audits provides purchasers and providers of energy audit services with a complete definition of good procedures for an energy survey and analysis. It also provides a format for defining buildings and their energy use that will allow data to be shared in meaningful ways. This publication specifically avoids a "cookbook" approach, recognizing that all buildings are different and each analyst needs to exercise a substantial amount of judgment. Instead, Procedures sets out generalized procedures to guide the analyst and the building owner, and provides a uniform method of reporting basic information. Different levels of analysis are organized into the following categories:Preliminary Energy Use Analysis Level I Analysis "Walk-Through Analysis Level II Analysis"Energy Survey and Analysis Level III Analysis"Detailed Analysis of Capital-Intensive Modifications The book comes with a CD that provides more than 25 guideline forms, with explanatory material, to illustrate the content and arrangement of a complete, effective energy analysis report. The CD provides these forms in both PDF and Word format, enabling you to customize and print each form. For the downloadable version, the PDF of the book and the guideline forms are included in a single .zip file. You will need WinZip or an equivalent program to open the file. Book excerpt: This protocol is intended to describe the recommended method when evaluating the whole-building performance of new construction projects in the commercial sector. The protocol focuses on energy conservation measures (ECMs) or packages of measures where evaluators can analyze impacts using building simulation. These ECMs typically require the use of calibrated building simulations under Option D of the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance Measurement Protocols for Commercial Buildings: Best Practices Guide is the how-to guide for continuously evaluating and improving the performance of commercial buildings throughout their service life. It is also intended to support integrated commissioning and all activities of the building's O and M team. It is the book that facility managers, building operators, technicians, consultants, commissioning authorities, architects, and design engineers need to ensure that their buildings are green, energy efficient, highly productive, healthy, and attractive to others. This Guide gives building owners and their consultants the practical performance measurement guidance to meet market demands for keeping operating costs down without sacrificing the health, comfort, and productivity of their highest cost component - the building's occupants. This book provides specific best practices in the areas of energy use, water use, and four elements of indoor environmental quality (IEQ): thermal comfort, indoor air quality (IAQ), lighting/ daylighting, and acoustics. Using this guidance, owners can be proactive on an ongoing basis to reduce costs through measurement and verification of their buildings' environments. This book is a follow-on publication to ASHRAE's Performance Measurement Protocols for Commercial Buildings, which describes what to measure, how it is to be measured, and how often it is to be measured to quantitatively assess the performance of commercial buildings. This Guide provides the process and tools for performance evaluation and improvement and is user friendly, phased, and readily applicable, with step-by-step procedures provided at three levels of application: Basic Evaluation, which uses observations of building characteristics, perceptions of occupants, and data from utility bills to characterize performance Diagnostic Measurement, which uses physical measurements to diagnose problems indicated at the Basic Evaluation Level and to identify how performance can be improved. Advanced Analysis, which uses the results of the first two levels plus the results of professional investigative processes to identify specific actions for performance improvement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strategic energy management (SEM) focuses on achieving energy-efficiency improvements through systematic and planned changes in facility operations, maintenance, and behaviors (OM&B) and capital equipment upgrades in large energy-using facilities, including industrial buildings, commercial buildings, and multi-facility organizations such as campuses or communities. Facilities can institute a spectrum of SEM actions, ranging from a simple process for regularly identifying energy-savings actions, to establishing a formal, third-party recognized or certified SEM framework for continuous improvement of energy performance. In general, SEM programs that would be considered part of a utility program will contain a set of energy-reducing goals, principles, and practices emphasizing continuous improvements in energy performance or savings through energy management and an energy management system (EnMS).

Book excerpt: This book focuses on the ways in which military installations and small cities can implement and integrate triple net planning and energy, water, and waste sustainability strategies into broad installation operational management, arrive at the best decision, create policy and communicate effectively to stakeholders. It explores current and emerging technologies, methods, and frameworks for energy conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy within the context of triple net zero implementation practice. Recognizing that the challenge extends beyond finding technological solutions to achieve triple net zero outcomes, the contributions also address the need for a systemic view in the planning phase, as well as adequate communication and policy measures and incentives.

This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manufacturing facilities are one among the largest consumers of energy. Efforts to improve energy efficiency are an increasing concern for many manufacturing facility engineering managers. This can be achieved by evaluating energy end uses (e.g., lighting, processing equipment, and heating, air conditioning, and ventilation (HVAC) systems), and by implementing measures to reduce the total amount of energy consumed for one or more of the end uses. Throughout the 40 years of its existence, the US Department of Energy's Industrial Assessment Center program has developed an array of techniques to improve energy efficiency in industrial facilities. This chapter discusses recommended assessment procedures and observed energy-saving opportunities for some of the most common industrial energy systems. These systems include lighting, compressed air, boilers and steam systems, manufacturing process heating, HVAC, pumps, and fans. Implementation of these assessment recommendations has been demonstrated to increase efficiency and to thus reduce energy consumption and associated costs. While every manufacturing facility is different, and their component industrial energy systems equally unique, this chapter presents a set of analytical guidelines that can be used as a template by engineering practitioners to evaluate their facility energy use and implement subsequent energy conservation measures.
