Book excerpt: Fuel yourself and others with positive energy—inspirational quotes and encouraging messages to live by from bestselling author, Jon Gordon. Ever since he wrote the mega bestseller The Energy Bus, Jon Gordon has been sharing inspirational messages and encouragement via his talks, books, and social media posts. After many requests to create a collection of his quotes, Jon teamed up with his long-time friend, Daniel Decker, to create Stay Positive. Stay Positive is more than a book of positive quotes. This book is a resource you can turn to each day for encouragement to help you take on your daily challenges, pursue your goals and dreams, and create positive momentum in your life. The power of positive thoughts is not about being Pollyanna Positive; it’s the real stuff that makes a proven difference in your perspective and life. After all, we don’t give up because it’s hard; we give up because we get discouraged. By fueling yourself with encouragement and positive energy, you’ll have greater power to overcome negativity, neutralize the naysayers, and conquer adversity. Stay Positive is more than a phrase. It’s an approach to life that says when you get knocked down, you'll get back up and find a way forward one faithful step and optimistic day at a time. Start your day with a message from the book, or pick it up anytime you need a mental boost. You can start from the beginning, or open the book to any page and find a message that speaks to you. However you decide to use Stay Positive, it’s a go-to resource for anyone wanting to inject a healthy dose of positivity into their life.

Book excerpt: Inspired by artist Tamara Laporte’s popular online art classes (willowing.org), Create Your Life Book presents 18 step-by-step mixed-media drawing and painting projects that encourage self-fulfillment through the creative process. Tamara’s kind, non-judgmental voice guides your way. What is holding you back? Where do you want to go? Let go of the past! Use these expressive exercises to help you recognize your personal challenges and other obstacles, then work through them. Let go of limiting beliefs, find courage, feel gratitude, heal pain, and develop self-love as you playfully create. Each themed chapter presents four to five two-part projects. First, you will explore a common issue that hampers creativity and/or positive self-worth. The second portion is a step-by-step mixed-media art project designed to help you work through that issue. Just a few of the explorations: Let go of what no longer serves you by taking stock of what’s holding you back, then create a zentangle butterfly to symbolize you flying away from those limiting things. Embrace and love your inner quirky bird by taking an inventory of your quirky traits, then create a bird that celebrates them. Heal old wounds by writing a letter to yourself as a child, then create a house to keep your inner child safe. Adding rich variety to the messages and art inspiration, some of the project outlines have been contributed by Tamara's guest teachers: Roxanne Coble, Andrea Gomoll, Alena Hennessy, Mystele Kirkeeng, Ivy Newport, and Effy Wild, each of whom are noted mixed-media artists in their own right. The final chapter presents a simple binding method for creating a keepsake book of your Life Book projects. Steeped in inspirational images and uplifting affirmations, Create Your Life Book can help you achieve both personal and creative growth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This devotional is for everyone. It was written with a pure heart for those that need encouragement, joy, peace, and most important a connection with their spiritual guide. That was its first intention and the last objective as it entered publishing. Encouraging Devotional Connections was born as brief email attachments written to Pastor Juanita's friends and colleagues. She wanted each devotional to be touching, give hope, and bring a sense of humor to those who read them. She felt that God was directing her to write these spiritual notes to others for over 10 years. Pastor Juanita admits that it was much later in the process of writing and sharing that the Lord quietly said to her that the writings were a "book". She said in her conversation with the Lord, "A what?" In time He showed her how many writings were saved in a file on her computer. She still replied, "Me, write a book?" And again in time He said, "It is Finished!" She said, “So much for that conversation.” Once Pastor Juanita accepted the purpose for the encouraging writings, she obediently began to read over them and they became a manuscript. She reported that despite the religious content of using a scripture to guide the thoughts and ending each writing with a prayer, she somehow (stubbornly) never meant the book to be a religious document and even while re-addressing the complication of these texts: She wanted this work to not just be for Christians, but for everyone no matter their persuasions or views. She had an overall commitment to touching others with hope, peace, and the knowledge that they are not alone and that we all share the commonality of daily life challenges, questions, and dilemmas. What is beautiful is that over the seasons these email attachments were being written she was ordained as an Elder, Pastored a Church, and was the CEO of a non-profit agency that provided Counseling services to those in need and without money. Go, figure! While there is no overlooking who her spiritual guide is, she believes in her heart that He Loves us all because He is Love. I John 4:16 says it well: "And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him." (New King James Version)

Book excerpt: I’ve known Phillip Morrison for four decades. Each encounter I have had with him has left me impressed with his kindness and wisdom. To know that he has collected his thoughts in a book is welcome news. May God bless this work and all who read it. – Max Lucado, Teaching Minister, Oak Hills Church, San Antonio; Missionary and Christian author. Phillip Morrison is a wonderful storyteller. I regard him as a wise friend of empathy, compassion, and integrity. Phillip has faced more than his share of life’s struggles with faith and dignity. These qualities come through in each of his regular “Encouraging Words” emails which have attracted me and many other readers across the years. Now, “Encouraging Words” has become “the book” ... a collection of “Phillip’s top hits.” Enjoy reading and finding encouraging words in every chapter. – Lynn Anderson, retired minister, church consultant, and Christian author. Reading Phillip Morrison’s writing is like a bear hug from dear ol’ Dad. He embraces you with truths that won’t let go. Thank you, Phillip, for gifting us with a lifetime of wisdom we can hold in our hands and refer to over and over again. This book is gift-worthy for anyone. – Laura Savage-Rains, EdD, Founder of WomensMinistryCoach.com Author of the multi-award winning book, “God Chose a Woman First.” I was born at the end of the Great Depression, eight years before the United States became involved in World War II. In our small town, caught between the pain of depression and the horrors of war, almost everybody went to church. Much of the preaching I heard as a small boy was judgmental, harsh, and unforgiving. People were as likely to be scared out of hell as loved into heaven. Although tempted to adopt the pulpit style of older preachers, I soon learned that people were hungry for a more hopeful message. The ministry of Jesus was characterized by the magnetic drawing power of the cross, and his encouragement to “Go, and sin no more” was a welcome message of forgiveness. When my pulpit ministry was curtailed by age and illness, I began the email ministry of encouragement. This book is a compilation of some of those messages. I hope and pray that you will find, in every chapter and every sentence, truly encouraging words.

Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book provides a comprehensive resource that addresses the growing movement for incorporating spirituality as an important aspect of the meaning and purpose of higher education. Written by Arthur W. Chickering, Jon C. Dalton, and Leisa Stamm—experts in the field of educational leadership and policy—Encouraging Authenticity and Spirituality in Higher Education shows how to encourage increased authenticity and spiritual growth among students and education professionals by offering alternative ways of knowing, being, and doing. Encouraging Authenticity and Spirituality in Higher Education includes a rich array of examples to guide the integration of authenticity and spirituality in curriculum, student affairs, community partnerships, assessment, and policy issues. Many of these illustrative examples represent specific policies and programs that have successfully been put in place at diverse institutions across the country. In addition, the authors cover the theoretical, historical, and social perspectives on religion and higher education and examine the implications for practice. They include the results of recent court cases that deal with church-state issues and offer recommendations that pose no legal barrier to implementation.
