Book Synopsis An Enchanted Valley by : Edward Harper
Download or read book An Enchanted Valley written by Edward Harper and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-03 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Enchanted Valley is a wonderfully vivid trip through rural France with author Edward Harper and his cultural historian lover as they search for peace, tranquility, and beauty. We had been in the village for six years now. The house was finished. We knew every nook and cranny of the area within a twenty-mile radius. The ebb and flow of the village had become a part of our lives each summer. The ten-year-old daughter of the lascivious school teacher had bloomed into a voluptuous teenager whose boyfriends roared into the village on scooters. Maurin's little dog no longer appeared on our doorsteps as his house stood shuttered and empty, the center of a vicious fight over the inheritance. But much remained the same. Every year the chatelain celebrated his birthday with a picnic and barbecue on the edges of his exotic forest. An immense pig was roasted over a pit and more than a hundred people attended, a mixture of his military comrades including the retired colonel of the regiment and some aging, but still menacing looking, paratroopers in their red berets. Gallons of Burdic in unmarked bottles chilled in ice-filled barrels stood next to tables with great washtubs of salad and gardianne, the superb spiced stew of the region.

Download or read book The Enchanted written by Rene Denfeld and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2014-03-04 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The Enchanted wrapped its beautiful and terrible fingers around me from the first page and refused to let go after the last. A wondrous book that finds transcendence in the most unlikely of places. . . . So dark yet so exquisite.” — Erin Morgenstern, author of The Night Circus An astonishing and redemptive novel for readers of Alice Sebold and Toni Morrison, told from the point of view of a convict whose magical interpretations of prison life allow him to find absolute joy while isolated from the rest of humanity and a female investigator who experiences her own personal salvation in her work as a death penalty investigator. This is an enchanted place. Others don’t see it but I do. The enchanted place is a high security prison and is relayed through the eyes of an inmate on death row who escapes his surroundings by immersing himself in books, and by re-imagining the world that surrounds him. Instead of focusing on the cloudy medical vines that snake across the floor, empty and waiting for the warden’s finger to press the red buttons, our narrator sees golden horses as they run deep under the earth, heat flowing like molten metal from their backs. A woman and fallen priest haunt the prison halls--an unnamed female investigator only known as the Lady who is known for discovering information relating to soon-to-be executed inmates’ backgrounds that can be used to overturn their sentences. She is put on the case of a man named York and as she digs into his past, the experience brings up ghosts of her own and threatens to destroy everything that she has come to know about the enchanted place. The Enchanted is a magical novel about redemption, the humanity that can lie within what is monstrous, and the human capacity to transcend and survive.

Book excerpt: Fifteen year-old academic prodigy and stage illusionist, Matt Collins, returns to the medieval land of Kotimaa, but this time, he travels in his own body and must accept the transfer as permanent. Going home won't be an option. Once more, Crius—the wicked, but not completely evil wizard—has mislead Matt in an effort to defeat the evil knight/wizard/king, Sobieslaw. For Matt to save his friends and perhaps the Kingdom of Kotimaa, he must accept what Crius cannot: Sobieslaw is dormy, too far ahead in the game to lose. Only when Matt admits that winning against the stark and dormy knight is impossible will he have a chance to find another solution. A Stark and Dormy Knight, the third book of the backwards coming-of-age trilogy, Possible Magic, brings a thrilling conclusion to the adventures of Matt Collins. Possible Magic: 1. The Princess, the Knight, and the Knave; 2. Tunnel at the End of the Dark; 3. A Stark and Dormy Knight.

Featuring spectacular views, flower-filled alpine meadows, lakes and streams, ancient forests, animals and birds, and solitude, these trails will give hikers a taste of Washington's best.
