Download or read book Motivational Speaker2 written by Tilawan and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-07-19 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspiring, entertaining, intriguing, and thrilling. He had a smooth and great command of the English language that left one in no doubt of the type of education he had. I was not particularly elated about getting a male caller. The men have a way of drawing you to their problems, which often had to do with their business deals or financial difficulties, and you would end up giving the same advice all over again, and thus turning the show to be a boring repetition of talks. But with the ladies, you are sure to bounce on an interesting topic that reveals a lot of a sleazy life history. It was not that the men had no history of scandals of theirs to reveal, but it was the ladies that normally were more imminent on their life stories. Hello, DJ SST! he said. He was definitely not a regular caller, probably not even a first caller. My buddies on the show were all used to calling me with just SST! Yeah, you are welcome to the motivation dance club on Peoples FM, and what dance steps do you have for us today? I asked in my usual polite and rehearsed manner of speaking to a new caller. Really, sir, this is my first time, he said rather apologetically. I was right. He was a first-time caller! And he was coming with this sir stuff that I haven't heard on the show for such a long time. Since I became a buddy and household name to my callers in Lagos, everybody was quick to address me just as SST. There was no sir or Mr. for me now! For a caller not to call me with my familiar initials could imply he was a new person on the sho' as I call it. And nobody wants to be seen as a new person on the show in Lagos! Anyway, I think I like the guy. He sounded a little cultured and might even turn out to be a gentleman! A gentleman in Lagos? Well, why not? You never know as they say! OK, you are welcome to the motivation dance club, and as you know, I am DJ SST, and we dont need introduction on the motivation dance club in Lagos. We just need more people to move on to our dance floor and show us their dancing steps! I was trying to loosen the tension that he exhibited in his voice. Yes, thanks, sir! he said.
Download or read book Empty Planet written by Darrell Bricker and published by Signal. This book was released on 2019-02-05 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the authors of the bestselling The Big Shift, a provocative argument that the global population will soon begin to decline, dramatically reshaping the social, political, and economic landscape. For half a century, statisticians, pundits, and politicians have warned that a burgeoning planetary population will soon overwhelm the earth's resources. But a growing number of experts are sounding a different kind of alarm. Rather than growing exponentially, they argue, the global population is headed for a steep decline. Throughout history, depopulation was the product of catastrophe: ice ages, plagues, the collapse of civilizations. This time, however, we're thinning ourselves deliberately, by choosing to have fewer babies than we need to replace ourselves. In much of the developed and developing world, that decline is already underway, as urbanization, women's empowerment, and waning religiosity lead to smaller and smaller families. In Empty Planet, Ibbitson and Bricker travel from South Florida to Sao Paulo, Seoul to Nairobi, Brussels to Delhi to Beijing, drawing on a wealth of research and firsthand reporting to illustrate the dramatic consequences of this population decline--and to show us why the rest of the developing world will soon join in. They find that a smaller global population will bring with it a number of benefits: fewer workers will command higher wages; good jobs will prompt innovation; the environment will improve; the risk of famine will wane; and falling birthrates in the developing world will bring greater affluence and autonomy for women. But enormous disruption lies ahead, too. We can already see the effects in Europe and parts of Asia, as aging populations and worker shortages weaken the economy and impose crippling demands on healthcare and social security. The United States is well-positioned to successfully navigate these coming demographic shifts--that is, unless growing isolationism and anti-immigrant backlash lead us to close ourselves off just as openness becomes more critical to our survival than ever before. Rigorously researched and deeply compelling, Empty Planet offers a vision of a future that we can no longer prevent--but one that we can shape, if we choose.
Download or read book Frost written by William H. Pritchard and published by Univ of Massachusetts Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although this book does not attempt to revive the image of Frost as a benign, white-haired sage, it does present him in a strikingly different light than did Lawrance Thompson's controversial three-volume biography. William H. Pritchard sees Frost whole, demonstrating the complex interaction between the poet's life and work. Based not only on the poetry, but on letters, notebooks, recorded interviews, and public appearances as well, 'Frost: A Literary Life Reconsidered' examines the most interesting and significant aspects of Frost's life and poetry and offers an attentive, sensitive portrait of an artist whose critical reputation continues to grow.

Book excerpt: This advanced text introduces the principles of noncooperative game theory in a direct and uncomplicated style that will acquaint students with the broad spectrum of the field while highlighting and explaining what they need to know at any given point. This advanced text introduces the principles of noncooperative game theory—including strategic form games, Nash equilibria, subgame perfection, repeated games, and games of incomplete information—in a direct and uncomplicated style that will acquaint students with the broad spectrum of the field while highlighting and explaining what they need to know at any given point. The analytic material is accompanied by many applications, examples, and exercises. The theory of noncooperative games studies the behavior of agents in any situation where each agent's optimal choice may depend on a forecast of the opponents' choices. "Noncooperative" refers to choices that are based on the participant's perceived selfinterest. Although game theory has been applied to many fields, Fudenberg and Tirole focus on the kinds of game theory that have been most useful in the study of economic problems. They also include some applications to political science. The fourteen chapters are grouped in parts that cover static games of complete information, dynamic games of complete information, static games of incomplete information, dynamic games of incomplete information, and advanced topics.

Book excerpt: A sixteen-year-old girl’s road trip across the country to get an abortion becomes a transformative journey of vulnerability, strength, and above all, choice. From the acclaimed author of A Heart in a Body in the World, this is both an achingly tender love story and a bold, badly needed battle cry about bodily autonomy and the experiences that connect us. Ivy can’t entirely believe it when the plus sign appears on the test. She didn’t even know it was possible from . . . what happened. But it is, and now she is, and instead of spending the summer working at the local drugstore and swooning over her boyfriend, Lorenzo, suddenly she’s planning a cross-country road trip to her grandmother’s house on the West Coast, where she can legally obtain an abortion. Escaping her small Texas town and the judgment of her friends and neighbors, Ivy hits the road with Lorenzo, who, determined to make the best of their “abortion road trip love story,” has transformed the journey into a whirlwind tour of the world: all the way from Paris, Texas, to Rome, Oregon . . . and every rest-stop diner and corny roadside attraction along the way. And while Ivy can’t run from the incessant pressure of others’ opinions about her body or from her own expectations and insecurities, she discovers a new world of healing and hope. As the women she encounters share their stories, she chips away at the stigma, silence, and shame surrounding reproductive rights while those collective experiences guide her to her own rightful destination.

Book Synopsis Life-Breath and the Truth by : Kamala Narasimha
Download or read book Life-Breath and the Truth written by Kamala Narasimha and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kamala Narasimha is well known, bold and free thinking novelist in Kannada. The opinion that we think of truths would fan out as their inner and outer faces. Truth is not seen symbolically. But Kamala is spunky woman, who has ventured to write about such things. A bold writer in kannada has confidence to magnify the life through her experience. It is her experience, honesty and the proper use of language that Kamalanarasimha, who has chosen the path of the novel for her spunky, courageous and intelligent expression, stands out. It was in her first novel Bhoogarbha that she unraveled the rural cosmos. The tension and conflicts that unfold in the context of the interior being exposed and the attitude of the novelist of exposing mysteries at every step are symptomatic of the solidity of the novelist. The essence of the novel is the success of the unfettered expression of the face-to-face interaction of the politician and the literatteur. This novel takes its firm place as an importance piece because of this. The complete magnification and direction of solidity of novel lies in her bold expression. The author has woven a story that does not endorse caste as a matter of course, which is what makes it art and which should interest readers. The crux is the protagonist-yielding breath after getting to know the truth.
Book Synopsis Once Loved Always Loved by : Andrew Hronich
Download or read book Once Loved Always Loved written by Andrew Hronich and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-02-23 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Andrew Hronich endeavors to synthesize the many strands of orthodox doctrine into a single telos: ultimate reconciliation. While a great deal of ink has already been spilled on this subject, this book addresses ponderances previously overlooked due to a lack of ecumenical dialogue between the differing streams of Christian tradition. Ancient lights, such as Origen, Gregory of Nyssa, and Clement of Alexandria are given a voice to speak again to the masses, whilst contemporary thinkers, such as Thomas Talbott, David Bentley Hart, and Eric Reitan, are unleashed upon the unwitting world of Christian philosophy. Stagnant tradition has hindered the church from abiding by its historic motto semper reformanda, but with its ecumenical voice, this book calls on Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox adherents alike to acknowledge apokatastasis panton, the salvation of all beings, as the orthodoxy it always has been.
Book Synopsis Why Leaders Lie by : John J. Mearsheimer
Download or read book Why Leaders Lie written by John J. Mearsheimer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-01-07 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than two decades, John J. Mearsheimer has been regarded as one of the foremost realist thinkers on foreign policy. Clear and incisive, a fearlessly honest analyst, his coauthored 2007 New York Times bestseller, The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy, aroused a firestorm with its unflinching look at the making of America's Middle East policy. Now he takes a look at another controversial but understudied aspect of international relations: lying. In Why Leaders Lie, Mearsheimer provides the first systematic analysis of lying as a tool of statecraft, identifying the varieties, the reasons, and the potential costs and benefits. Drawing on a trove of examples, he argues that leaders often lie for good strategic reasons, so a blanket condemnation is unrealistic and unwise. Yet there are other kinds of deception besides lying, including concealment and spinning. Perhaps no distinction is more important than that between lying to another state and lying to one's own people. Mearsheimer was amazed to discover how unusual interstate lying has been; given the atmosphere of distrust among the great powers, he found that outright deceit is difficult to pull off and thus rarely worth the effort. Plus it sometimes backfires when it does occur. Khrushchev lied about the size of the Soviet missile force, sparking an American build-up. Eisenhower got caught lying about U-2 spy flights in 1960, which scuttled an upcoming summit with Krushchev. Leaders more often mislead their own publics, sometimes with damaging consequences. Though the reasons may be noble--Franklin Roosevelt, for example, lied to the American people about German U-boats attacking the destroyer Greer in 1940, to build a case for war against Hitler-they can easily lead to disaster, as with the Bush administration's falsehoods about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. There has never been a sharp analysis of international lying. Now a leading expert fills the gap with a richly informed and powerfully argued book.
