It examines the antecedents, dimensions, and consequences of employee engagement while providing evidence-based context specific models for the deployment of employee engagement to facilitate how individuals and teams contribute to and enhance organizational performance and community outcomes in nonprofit organizations. Alongside the theoretical aspects are concrete examples of how to develop, implement and manage employee engagement in nonprofit employment relations and HR practices. Facilitating understanding of aspects of engagement that are unique to nonprofit organizations, this work offers researchers and students a comprehensive analysis of models that explain the role of the environment, the characteristics of employees and the organization in the dimensions of employee engagement in nonprofit organizations.

Book excerpt: Leadership styles and organizational culture are important to the commitment and motivation of staff members of nonprofit organizations. To date, the studies that examine the relationship between these variables can have blurred lines which make it difficult to reach an end result that shows a true correlation between leadership styles and the motivation and commitment of employees. The purpose of this quantitative and descriptive study is to observe the relationships between laissez-faire, transformational and transactional leadership styles (Peng et al., 2019) and the level of motivation and commitment of employees in a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles California (Grant,2012). This study proposes to survey employees of a nonprofit organization using three methods. The employees will use surveys to assess their perception of the style of leader they work for, their own motivation, and finally their commitment level to the organization. The survey responses will be collected using an online anonymous platform and analyzed for descriptive /correlational relationships using SPSS. Findings will help clarify the relationships between employee motivation and commitment within each of the three leadership styles. The implications for encouraging change within Beit T'Shuvah from this project will embrace the idea of attending to the needs of the employees in order to make them feel more motivated and in turn committed to their job. Once this information is shared with the leaders, there will be a greater chance to evaluate their behaviors and make changes where necessary. This might result in less turnover and higher employee satisfaction.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to establish a measurement scale for human resource management (HRM) practices in nonprofit organizations and to analyze their impact on employee job satisfaction. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) using a principal components was performed. The analyzed sample is composed of 62 organizations with 2,030 employees. The results demonstrate that 8 out of 20 analyzed variables determine the measurement scale of HRM practices in these organizations. These variables are related to psychological demands, active work and development possibilities, social relations and leadership, and the degree of coherence in the organization with its principles. According to the results, these practices have an impact on employee job satisfaction. We believe that these results are relevant due to the lack of similar studies and the relevance of nonprofit organizations as job creators in the European Union.

Book excerpt: Human resource management in nonprofit arts organizations is an underfunded and understudied subject that is vital to the success and growth of the sector. Nonprofit organizations employ a variety of HR structures to manage their human capital. This study seeks to assess if different HR structures utilized by nonprofit arts organizations affect employee satisfaction and turnover. I conducted a survey of employees of mid-sized nonprofit arts organizations in the Greater Philadelphia region to gather information about their employer's HR structure, as well as their satisfaction levels and turnover intentions. While no statistical correlation was evident based on the data between HR structure and employee satisfaction, it was found that increased employee satisfaction is related to decreased turnover intentions. These findings suggest that through continued attention to and investment in human resource management, arts nonprofits can invest in their human capital, increase employee satisfaction, and retain employees in an effort to strengthen their organizations for the future and increase impact in pursuit of their mission.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a relationship between executive servant leadership and job satisfaction in human service nonprofit organizations in southwest Virginia. The problem to be addressed was the leadership deficit in nonprofit organizations and the ability of nonprofit leaders to motivate employees to perform. This study was significant because the leadership is a critical success factor for nonprofit organizations, however, the nonprofit sector is confronting a situation of leadership deficit. There is limited research on effective leadership strategies for nonprofit organizations. This study serves as new research for effective leadership practices and their relationship to employee motivation for nonprofit organizations. The researcher applied a self-reporting questionnaire framework to measure the independent and dependent variables. The Job Satisfaction Survey was used to measure the dependent variable of employee job satisfaction and the Servant Organizational Leadership Assessment was used to measure the independent variable of servant leadership present in an organization. A random sample of 83 full time employees of human service nonprofit organizations in southwest Virginia participated in the study. The results of this study found a moderate-strong positive statistically significant relationship between servant leadership present in an organization and employee job satisfaction. The results of this study contribute to nonprofit leadership practices as the results indicate servant leadership does lead to increased employee job satisfaction and nonprofit leaders should seek to understand how implementing servant leadership practices into their own leadership will benefit their employees. Biblically, just as man is created with a purpose to serve others through Jesus Christ, business leaders also exist with a purpose to serve.
