Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ideas of economic democracy and financial participation are not new. The International Congress on profit-sharing first met in Paris in 1889. However since then, the numerous schemes have met with mixed reactions and various levels of success. In Economic Democracy and Financial Participation, Daryl D'Art has two objectives. Firstly, to examine if, and under what conditions, profit-sharing schemes and employee shareholding can motivate workers and generate cooperative striving. Secondly he identifies the schemes of financial participation which have the potential to realise economic democracy within the individual firm and wider society.
Book Synopsis A Share of the Spoils by : Peter Andrew Reilly
Download or read book A Share of the Spoils written by Peter Andrew Reilly and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study reviews the evidence of whether employee financial participation can lead to greater employee commitment to the purposes of the organization, or whether it is simply a means of giving or receiving tax-efficient remuneration. The report does this by looking at the different forms of employee financial participation - how they have developed and why they have been introduced. It also looks at survey evidence on the impact of financial participation on employee attitudes and behaviour. Is it merely another form of pay, generating little involvement by employees, or does it help attract, retain and motivate staff? Employee financial participation can be associated with improved productivity and more positive employee attitudes, but it cannot be proved that there is a causal relationship between the employee financial participation and these benefits.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work, originally published in 1989, examines a highly important phenomenon: the growth of profit-sharing and share-ownership schemes for employees within the company. The Origins of Economic Democracy traces the origins and developments of such schemes internationally, and presents an explanatory framework for understanding their emergence. Both legislation and economic conditions play key roles in determining the popularity of such schemes for companies and their employees. The subject of profit-sharing is of vital importance to companies endeavouring to improve their financial performance while increasing the degree of job satisfaction and organizational loyalty of staff members.

Download or read book Profit Sharing and Company Performance written by Marija Ugarkovic and published by Springer-Verlag. This book was released on 2008-01-15 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marija Ugarkovic examines whether financial participation can contribute to a more equitable distribution of income and wealth, whether it can increase employment and lead to improved company performance. The author uses a large-scale German establishment panel thus proving the beneficial impact on productivity and employment. In addition, she shows that profit sharing does not lead to a reduction of base wages but is paid in addition to regular wages. It becomes evident that profit sharing has more positive effects for large firms than for small and medium-sized companies.

Book Synopsis The Real World of Employee Ownership by : John Logue
Download or read book The Real World of Employee Ownership written by John Logue and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-09-05 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using data from an extensive study of employee-owned companies in Ohio, where employee ownership is a well-developed trend, this book offers a strong empirical portrait of firms with Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs). It describes how these plans work and places their emergence and change in a historical context. John Logue and Jacquelyn Yates examine firms that have succeeded in employee ownership and those with failed plans. Some companies, they find, are committed to the concept of employee ownership, and others merely use ESOPs as a financing tool.Detailed information resulting from multiple surveys allows the authors to draw well-grounded conclusions regarding the question of why some employee-owned firms outperform others. The bottom line, they find, is that employee-owned firms that "do it all," implementing features such as employee participation and communication about finances, training, and cultural change, systematically outperform their conventional competitors. They also have an advantage over firms that understand employee ownership incompletely, if it all, and yet claim to adopt its methods.

Book Synopsis Shared Capitalism at Work by : Douglas L. Kruse
Download or read book Shared Capitalism at Work written by Douglas L. Kruse and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2010-06-15 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The historical relationship between capital and labor has evolved in the past few decades. One particularly noteworthy development is the rise of shared capitalism, a system in which workers have become partial owners of their firms and thus, in effect, both employees and stockholders. Profit sharing arrangements and gain-sharing bonuses, which tie compensation directly to a firm’s performance, also reflect this new attitude toward labor. Shared Capitalism at Work analyzes the effects of this trend on workers and firms. The contributors focus on four main areas: the fraction of firms that participate in shared capitalism programs in the United States and abroad, the factors that enable these firms to overcome classic free rider and risk problems, the effect of shared capitalism on firm performance, and the impact of shared capitalism on worker well-being. This volume provides essential studies for understanding the increasingly important role of shared capitalism in the modern workplace.
