This book was released on 2012-10-17 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication, “Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Management Operations (Joint Publication 6-01),” provides doctrine for joint electromagnetic spectrum management operations organization, planning, preparation, execution, and assessment in support of joint operations. Military operations are complicated by increasingly complex demands on the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS). All modern forces depend on the EMS. The EMS is a physical medium through which joint forces conduct operations. The importance of the EMS and its relationship to the operational capabilities is the key focus of joint electromagnetic spectrum management operations (JEMSMO). The EMS is a highly regulated and saturated natural resource. The EMS includes the full range of all possible frequencies of electromagnetic radiation. Joint electromagnetic spectrum operations (JEMSO) include all activities in military operations to successfully plan and execute joint or multinational operations in order to control the electromagnetic operational environment (EMOE). JEMSO is comprised of electronic warfare (EW) and JEMSMO and aims to exploit, attack, protect, and manage resources within the EMOE and resolve electromagnetic interference (EMI) in order to achieve the commander's objectives. JEMSMO is planning, coordinating, and managing joint use of the EMS through operational, engineering, and administrative procedures. The primary goal of JEMSMO is to enable EMS-dependent capabilities and systems to perform their functions in the intended environment without causing or suffering unacceptable interference. This publication has been prepared under the direction of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It sets forth joint doctrine to govern the activities and performance of the Armed Forces of the United States in joint operations and provides the doctrinal basis for interagency coordination and for US military involvement in multinational operations. It provides military guidance for the exercise of authority by combatant commanders and other joint force commanders (JFCs) and prescribes joint doctrine for operations and training. It provides military guidance for use by the Armed Forces in preparing their appropriate plans. It is not the intent of this publication to restrict the authority of the JFC from organizing the force and executing the mission in a manner the JFC deems most appropriate to ensure unity of effort in the accomplishment of the overall objective.

Book excerpt: The Department of Defense uses the 960 – 1215 MHz band for the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS), the Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS), and other functionally similar Tactical Link systems (termed collectively, “Link 16 Terminals”). Based on its importance for aeronautical radio-navigation and supporting systems, the Department of Transportation (DoT) also has interests in this frequency band. Rapid growth in commercial and civil aviation during the 21st century shall increase the importance of ensuring spectrum supportability for existing and new systems that enhance air traffic safety. The Department of Defense and the DoT shall work cooperatively to support National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) action to protect both Link 16 and civil/commercial aeronautical systems sharing this portion of the radio frequency (RF) spectrum. Ensuring Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is the cornerstone to spectrum management and supportability, and optimal system operation. Thus, the EMC features of Link 16 systems used throughout the Department of Defense shall be certified to ensure compliance with applicable requirements and specifications.

Book excerpt: Circuits are faster and more tightly packed than ever, wireless technologies increase the electromagnetic (EM) noise environment, new materials entail entirely new immunity issues, and new standards govern the field of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Maintaining the practical and comprehensive approach of its predecessor, Principles and Techniques of Electromagnetic Compatibility, Second Edition reflects these emerging challenges and new technologies introduced throughout the decade since the first edition appeared. What's new in the Second Edition? Characterization and testing for high-speed design of clock frequencies up to and above 6 GHz Updates to the regulatory framework governing EM compliance Additional coverage of the printed circuit board (PCB) environment as well as additional numerical tools An entirely new section devoted to new applications, including signal integrity, wireless and broadband technologies, EMC safety, and statistical EMC Added coverage of new materials such as nanomaterials, band gap devices, and composites Along with new and updated content, this edition also includes additional worked examples that demonstrate how estimates can guide the early stages of design. The focus remains on building a sound foundation on the fundamental concepts and linking this to practical applications, rather than supplying application-specific fixes that do not easily generalize to other areas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual provides an overview of electromagnetic spectrum operations for the Army at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels. This manual also provides direction, guidance, and techniques necessary to meet the needs of Army electromagnetic spectrum operations in a joint, interagency and multinational environment. In addition, this guide describes the roles and functions of international, national, host nation, and military organizations. It provides a comprehensive look at installation frequency coordination. The target audience for this manual is the electromagnetic spectrum manager, but it is also useful for signal leaders and supervisors to gain an understanding of electromagnetic spectrum operations. The most significant changes in this manual from the previous edition are in Chapters 1, 5, and 6. Chapter 1 has been revised to include the introduction of electromagnetic spectrum operations, the tenets that constitute electromagnetic spectrum operations, and an overview of how electromagnetic spectrum operations support full spectrum operations. Chapter 5 has been revised to include corps and below operations in addition to a better explanation of coordination with electronic warfare operations. Chapter 6 has been updated and revised substantially particularly in regard to equipment updates. Numerous minor updates and revisions have been included throughout the manual to reflect changes in organization, technologies, and processes.

Book excerpt: Focusing mainly on engineering aspects of communications electronic warfare (EW) systems, this thoroughly updated and revised edition of a popular Artech House book offers a current and complete introduction to the subject. The second edition adds a wealth of new material, including expanded treatments of two critical areas -- RF noise and effects of signal fading and important topic of jamming performance over fading channels. Provides understanding of how modern direction finders for communication signals work and how to measure performance, defining basic operations necessary for communication EW systems. Provides a technique for geolocation of low probability of intercept/anti-jam targets.
