Download or read book Electronic Structure, Correlation Effects and Physical Properties of D- and F-metals and Their Compounds written by Valentin Yu Irkhin and published by Cambridge Int Science Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book includes all main physical properties of d- and f-transition-metal systems and corresponding theoretical concepts. Special attention is paid to the theory of magnetism and transport phenomena. Some examples of non-traditional questions which are treated in detail in the book: the influence of density of states singularities on electron properties; many-electron description of strong itinerant magnetism; mechanisms of magnetic anisotropy; microscopic theory of anomalous transport phenomena in ferromagnets. Besides considering classical problems of solid state physics as applied to transition metals, modern developments in the theory of correlation effects in d- and f-compounds are considered within many-electron models. The book contains, where possible, a simple physical discussion. More difficult questions are considered in Appendices.

Download or read book Electronic Structure and Magnetism of 3d-Transition Metal Pnictides written by Kazuko Motizuki and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the results of investigations into the magnetic properties of 3d-transition metal compounds. In particular, it deals with 3d-metal pnictides (i.e., compounds containing phosphorus, arsenic, antimony or bismuth). Part I reports the experimental data together with phenomenological discussions from fundamental and application view points. Part II addresses how some of interesting behaviors mentioned in Part I can be explained on the basis of an itinerant electron picture. Band structures obtained by first-principle calculations are applied to introduce theories to calculate various properties such as susceptibility, magnetic ordering, and magnetic transitions, etc.

Book Synopsis Electronic Properties of Metals by : Gerd Lehmann
Download or read book Electronic Properties of Metals written by Gerd Lehmann and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1990 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The excitation spectrum or band structure of electronics is often interpreted as the electronic structure. This definition is based on the Landau theory of elementary excitations, which shows that the reaction of a many-particle system on a weak external perturbation can be described by nearly non-interacting low-energy excitations of one-particle type. In metals these excitations close to the Fermi energy are only lightly damped. On this basis many electronic properties, especially of metals, can be understood and calculated, a breakthrough which has made a considerable contribution to materials science. This book focuses on the basic principles of solid state physics and in particular on actual problems and recent applications which have not previously been reviewed. At present a common electron theory for all types of solids is developing, unifying the viewing and treatment of the electronic structure and electronic properties of metals and semiconductors.

This book was released on 1993-03-18 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a Festschrift in honour of Professor Kazuko Motizuki on the occasion of her retirement from Osaka University. She has been active in a variety of branches of solid state physics and, in particular, has made an important contribution to the theory of magnetism. The book reviews recent advances in magnetism of transition metal compounds, both for itinerant electron systems and localized spin systems. For the former systems, band calculational methods, correlation effects, and theoretical aspects of photoemission spectroscopy are reviewed generally, and then recent progress in the theoretical and experimental understanding of magnetic properties of various kinds of intermetallic compounds and intercalation compounds of transition-metal dichalcogenides are reviewed in detail. For the latter systems, attention is focused on quantum effects, frustration and competing interaction in low-dimensional systems. Main subjects treated in the book are Haldane gap-systems, singlet-ground-state systems, triangular spin systems, and quantum spin chains with competing interactions.

Book Synopsis Study Into the Electronic Structure of Magnetic Iron and Related Alloys by : Andrew Leigh Walter
Download or read book Study Into the Electronic Structure of Magnetic Iron and Related Alloys written by Andrew Leigh Walter and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES) is the major experimental method used to investigate the electronic structure of solids. It directly probes the electron-wave-vector dependence of occupied electronic states. The photoemission spectrum is modelled by a spectral function A(k,E) with electron wave vector k and binding energy E which includes electron-electron interactions by a complex self-energy. Bandstructures of metals are often successfully calculated by density-functional theory without self-energy corrections. For certain solids such as the noble metal Cu, the one-electron band-structure picture of density-functional theory agrees very well with the E (k) dispersion obtained ARPES. However for its neighbour in the periodic system, the 3d transition metal Ni, strong effects of electron correlation on core-level and valence-band spectra have been established.
