Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electro-Dynamic Machinery for Continuous Currents Although several excellent treatises on machinery employed in electro-dynamics already exist, yet the authors believe that there remains a demand for a work on electro-dynamic machinery based upon a treatment differing essentially from any that has perhaps yet appeared. Nearly all preceding treatises are essentially symbolic in their mathematical treatment of the quantities which are involved, even although such treatment is associated with much practical information. It has been the object of the authors in this work to employ only the simplest mathematical treatment, and to base this treatment, as far as possible, on actual observations, taken from practice, and illustrated by arithmetical examples. By thus bringing the reader into intimate association with the nature of the quantities involved, it is believed that a more thorough appreciation and grasp of the subject can be obtained than would be practicable where a symbolic treatment from a purely algebraic point of view is employed. In accordance with these principles, the authors have inserted, wherever practicable, arithmetical examples, illustrating formulas as they arise. The fundamental principles involved in the construction and use of dynamos and motors have been considered, rather than the details of construction and winding. The notation adopted throughout the book is that recommended by the Committee on Notation of the Chamber of Delegates at the Chicago International Electric Congress of 1893. Download or read book Dynamo-Electric Machinery written by Silvanus Phillips Thompson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-27 with total page 1064 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dynamo-Electric Machinery: A Manual for Students of Electrotechnics The last English edition of this work (the fifth) appeared in 1896. The sixth edition, published only in America, differed merely in the addition of a supplement relating to American machines. With the development of the subject it has become necessary to divide the work into two parts. Hence the present volume, Part I. Of the Seventh Edition, deals only with machinery for continuous-currents. Part II., dealing with machinery for alternating-currents, is in the press and will be published in 1904. The long delay in the publication of the present edition is due to many causes. In particular, full twelve months of delay have been occasioned by a libel suit brought against the author on account mainly of statements which have appeared substantially without change in every edition of this book since 1884. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theoretical Elements of Electro-Dynamic Machinery, Vol. 1 This volume is a collection of a series of articles recently published in the "Electrical Engineer" of New York. The writer's desire and intention has been to develop for students of electrical engineering the applied or arithmetical theory of electro-magnetism, as distinguished from the purely mathematical theory of this great and important subject. The groundwork only can be said to have been completed within the limits of these covers. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Continuous and Alternating Current Machinery: An Elementary Text-Book for Use in Technical Schools This text was written especially for the use of students in technical high schools and similar institutions, but it is believed that it will be of value also for certain courses in engineering schools. Many of the students in engineer ing schools do not have the time for an exhaustive study of the subject of Electrical Machinery, but every engineering graduate should have some knowledge of the different kinds of generators and motors in every day use. To such non electrical students the text should prove helpful. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Electro-Magnet Machinery and Other Apparatus, Vol. 1 written by Bernard Victor Swenson and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electro-Magnet Machinery and Other Apparatus, Vol. 1: Direct Current This book was written because the authors have felt the need of a treatise of this nature, and because others have expressed a similar feeling. The treatise will be in two volumes and is intended for use as a college text-book and also as a work of reference for engineers. The procedure followed is that which has been used for some years in the dynamo laboratories at the University of Wisconsin, but the treatment is of a character which makes it suitable for general use in other institutions. The field covered by the present volume is that of direct-current electromagnetic machinery and apparatus, and is almost exclusively confined to dynamo-electric machinery. It is assumed that due instruction in precise electrical measurements has been previously received in a course which is adapted to suit the requirements of the electrical engineer. The text refers in numerous places to various books and publications so as to make it serviceable in connection with any first-class college course in direct-current dynamo machinery. This also adds to the value of the treatise as a reference book. The second volume (which is in course of preparation) will deal with alternating current machinery and apparatus. The treatment of each experiment is self-contained. Stress is laid on this feature, as it is believed to be of marked value in a work of reference; and, in a text-book, it allows the instructor great latitude in arranging a course to suit the individual needs of his students. The order of experiments adopted is a convenient one to follow in the college laboratory, but it may be judiciously changed as dictated by convenience, without injuring the proper sequence of the work. Book excerpt: For a one-semester senior or beginning graduate level course in power system dynamics. This text begins with the fundamental laws for basic devices and systems in a mathematical modeling context. It includes systematic derivations of standard synchronous machine models with their fundamental controls. These individual models are interconnected for system analysis and simulation. Singular perturbation is used to derive and explain reduced-order models.
