Book Synopsis Electricity Its Nature and Forms by : C. W. Boyce
Download or read book Electricity Its Nature and Forms written by C. W. Boyce and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-09 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electricity Its Nature and Forms: With a Study on Electro-Therapeutics Wm a second edition? 'before trying to answer 'this I'will answer another question, viz.: Why a first edition? Over forty years ago, 'whilst a student at school, electricity had a peculiar charm for 'me. The chemistry, then in use, gave a good description, illustrated by plates, of the machinery in use, and as a text-book was all that was necessary to teach the elementary part of this subject. In particular it illustrated electrical induction. Later, when a student of medicine, I learned what was then known of the electro-magnetic machine, and of the mag neto-electric machine. These machines gave only the induced current. At this time I only learned that there was an induced current in use; this is What is'now called the secondary induced current. Of 'this information I was quite proud and rather set myself up as a critic or a teacher. Some years ago an artisan, near my office, made a machine for winding silk or cotton around a wire for the purpose of insulating it and in order to show how well this work was done he made from this wire so insulated the necessary coils for an electro-magnetic machine. A scrap of paper in its pocket reads ‘Roxbury’. The shadows of European machinations loom over the capital. For Sergeant Campbell Lawless, fears become reality as a series of explosions tear across the country. Home Office anxieties lead Lawless to Roxbury House, where the Earl of Roxbury, the country’s foremost weapons manufacturer, resides with a cavalcade of innovative scientists and researchers. Lawless places his best agent, ex-street urchin Molly, in the Earl’s home as he races to find those behind the attacks before the tinderbox of Europe is ignited.
Book Synopsis Cardiac Mechano-Electric Coupling and Arrhythmias by : Peter Kohl
Download or read book Cardiac Mechano-Electric Coupling and Arrhythmias written by Peter Kohl and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2011-08-25 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiac Mechano-Electric Coupling and Arrhythmias offers a thoroughly reviewed compendium written by leading experts in the field on the mechanism and consequences of cardiac mechano-electrical coupling. Its coverage ranges from stretch-activated ion channels to mechanically induced arrhythmias and mechanical interventions for heart rhythm correction. Information is grouped into logical sections, from molecular mechanisms, to cell, tissue and whole organ responses, right through to patient-based observations and insight emerging from clinical trials. The information provided carefully highlights both consensus insight and current shortcomings in our understanding of cardiac mechano-electric coupling. The book has been thoroughly revised and expanded since publication of the first edition in 2005, extensively updated to reflect recent developments in the field, and now offers a more balanced view of mechano-electrical interactions in the heart and develops a more clinical focus. Written with the practising cardiologist and junior doctor in mind, it offers interesting new insight for the established physician with an interest in cardiac arrhythmogenesis and heart rhythm management.
