Book Synopsis Nanomaterials and Nano-Biochar in Reducing Soil Stress by : Vishnu D. Rajput
Download or read book Nanomaterials and Nano-Biochar in Reducing Soil Stress written by Vishnu D. Rajput and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-12-06 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil deterioration, loss of productivity, and increases in toxic elements in soil induced by rapid industrial development and intensive cultivation are posing a serious threat to global food security and environmental sustainability. Nanotechnology has the capacity to expand current cultivation practices in a sustainable way. This new book details the potential this novel technology has to reduce soil pollution, enhance crop production, promote sustainable agriculture, and ultimately ensure food security. The book emphasizes how nano-biochar technology can be implemented to enhance microbial activities and other soil organism functionalities by applying or combining agricultural practices and soil health-improving amendments. Exploring the most promising carbon-rich material, that is, biochar, and more effectively, nano-biochar, this book covers the characteristics, production and benefits of nano-enhanced biochar. The role of nanobiochar in metal stress reduction, for soil health improvement, as a soil conditioner, in reducing soil stress using integrated approaches, for improving nutrient use efficiency, in salinity stress management, for sustainable crop production, and for arsenic remediation are all considered in detail. Starting with an introduction to nano-biochar, the book goes on to detail its benefits, its conditioner-like effect on soil, its role in improving soil health and reducing soil stress, how it improves nutrient use capacity in soil and its ability to alleviate salinity, heavy metal stress, and arsenic remediation in crops. With its comprehensive coverage of the important topic of biochar and nano-biochar, the book will prove useful to companies, students, professors, researchers, and scientists who are interested in the topic of soil stress management and sustainable agriculture as well as policymakers who can recommend novel agriculture amendments.

Book Synopsis On the Improvement of Combustion Engines with Waste Heat Recovery Systems in Mobile Applications by : Thomas Matousek
Download or read book On the Improvement of Combustion Engines with Waste Heat Recovery Systems in Mobile Applications written by Thomas Matousek and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2019-08-10 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation deals with the experimental and simulative investigation of waste heat recovery from combustion engine exhaust gas in passenger car applications. The focus of the investigations lies on the thermodynamic cycle according to Rankine. The boundary conditions of combustion engines and the limitations of an automobile cause new operating conditions and system operating parameters for Rankine-systems, which will be discussed within this work. The system operating parameters were judged based on their potential to improve the efficiency of a running system, by setting the optimal values for each individual situation. Alternative circuit variants were investigated alongside of the basic configuration, which allowed additional heat input into the system and thereby increase the power output of the Rankine-system. Another operative influence on a waste heat recovery system that was analyzed was the importance of engine operating parameters. This on one hand lays groundwork and on the other hand displays the potentials of different system combinations. The knowledge gained during stationary operation is transferred to dynamic operation in the following. Cold start was chosen as the most important variant of dynamic operation. Results from measurements at starting temperatures down to -10C are presented. These include the first published measurements of temperature and power output for such scenarios. The basics of the behavior of a Rankine-system in cold start are extended by the impact of system operating parameters and circuit configurations. Possible synergies through different kinds of connection from the condenser to the coolant system were investigated as a completing facet of the holistic system view. The target of these investigations was to identify potentials for improvements in the cold start of the automobile by utilizing the heat that is available at the condenser.
