Book Synopsis Saline Groundwater - Surface Water Interaction in Coastal Lowlands by : J.R. Delsman
Download or read book Saline Groundwater - Surface Water Interaction in Coastal Lowlands written by J.R. Delsman and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2015-05-07 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coastal zones are among the world's most densely populated and economically important areas, but these factors put pressure on the often limited available freshwater resources. Global change will undoubtedly increase this pressure through the combined effects of increased population, economic development, rising sea levels, increased evapotranspiration, over-extraction and the salinization of coastal aquifers, decreasing river discharges, and accelerating land subsidence. Saline groundwater exfiltration is a common problem in the coastal zone of the Netherlands, but the hydrological processes and physiographic factors that affect this are not fully understood. The research presented in this book aims to identify the processes and physiographic factors controlling the spatial variability and temporal dynamics of the exfiltration of saline groundwater to surface water, and hence the contribution of saline groundwater to surface water salinity. Topics covered include a paleo-hydrogeological model simulation of the Holocene evolution of groundwater salinity as a result of paleo-geographic changes; surface water salinity dynamics in a densely-drained lowland catchment; hydrograph separation in an agricultural catchment; observations of heads, flow, solute concentration and temperature to constrain a detailed, variable-density groundwater flow and transport model; and a model to simulate the salinity dynamics of exfiltrating groundwater to support operational water management of freshwater resources in coastal lowlands. The book further outlines the implications of these findings for freshwater management in the Netherlands. The book demonstrates that the salinity of groundwater exfiltrating in polders in the Netherlands, and hence surface water salinity, varies on a wide range of spatial and temporal scales.
Book Synopsis Lecture Notes on the Major Soils of the World by : P. M. Driessen
Download or read book Lecture Notes on the Major Soils of the World written by P. M. Driessen and published by Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). This book was released on 2001 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lecture notes describe the major soils of the world and their properties, genetic formation, regional distribution, their management and associated land use. The World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB) is used throughout the text, as the basis for a universal classification system for soil correlation. The aim of the publication is to make the WRB accessible to young scientists. It is intended to facilitate the study of soils and the exchange of soil information, and provides a common language for soil science.

Book Synopsis Soil Moisture Importance by : Ram Swaroop Meena
Download or read book Soil Moisture Importance written by Ram Swaroop Meena and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-03-24 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poor soil and water management are often related to insufficient or poor rainfall distribution around the world. In modern agriculture, over-cultivation, deforestation, overgrazing, and high dependence on an irrigated cropping system with water-intensive crops increase soil and water erosion. This book examines ways of improving soil moisture management to support environmental, food, social, and economic security under a sustainable ecosystem.
Download or read book Groundwater written by R. Allan Freeze and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 1979 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors preceive a trend in the study and practice of groundwater hydrology. They see a science that is emerging from its geological roots and its early hydraulic applications into a full-fledged environmental science. They see a science that is becoming more interdisciplinary in nature and of greater importance in the affairs of man. This book is their response, and they have provided a text that is suited to the study of groundwater during this period of emergence.
Book Synopsis Soil Survey Laboratory Methods Manual by : USDA
Download or read book Soil Survey Laboratory Methods Manual written by USDA and published by Scientific Publishers - USDA. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual is to document methodology and to serve as a reference for the laboratory analyst. The standard methods described in this SSIR No. 42, Soil Survey Laboratory Methods Manual, Version 4.0 replaces as a methods reference all earlier versions of the SSIR No. 42 (1989, 1992, and 1996, respectively) and SSIR No. 1, Procedures for Collecting Soil Samples and Methods of Analysis for Soil Survey (1972, 1982, and 1984). All SSL methods are performed with methodologies appropriate for the specific purpose. The SSL SOP's are standard methods, peer-recognized methods, SSL-developed methods, and/or specified methods in soil taxonomy (Soil Survey Staff, 1999). An earlier version of this manual (1996) also served as the primary document from which a companion manual, Soil Survey Laboratory Information Manual (SSIR No. 45, 1995), was developed. The SSIR No. 45 describes in greater detail the application of SSL data. Trade names are used in the manual solely for the purpose of providing specific information. Mention of a trade name does not constitute a guarantee of the product by USDA nor does it imply an endorsement by USDA.
