Book excerpt: Fracture Mechanics of Electromagnetic Materials provides a comprehensive overview of fracture mechanics of conservative and dissipative materials, as well as a general formulation of nonlinear field theory of fracture mechanics and a rigorous treatment of dynamic crack problems involving coupled magnetic, electric, thermal and mechanical field quantities.Thorough emphasis is placed on the physical interpretation of fundamental concepts, development of theoretical models and exploration of their applications to fracture characterization in the presence of magneto-electro-thermo-mechanical coupling and dissipative effects. Mechanical, aeronautical, civil, biomedical, electrical and electronic engineers interested in application of the principles of fracture mechanics to design analysis and durability evaluation of smart structures and devices will find this book an invaluable resource./a

Download or read book Vibrations and Waves (Part B: Waves) written by S. Kaliski and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a comprehensive overview of wave phenomena in different media with interacting mechanical, electromagnetic and other fields. Equations describing wave propagation in linear and non-linear elastic media are followed by equations of rheological models, models with internal rotational degrees of freedom and non-local interactions. Equations for coupled fields: thermal, elastic, electromagnetic, piezoelectric, and magneto-spin with adequate boundary conditions are also included. Together with its companion volume Vibrations and Waves. Part A: Vibrations this work provides a wealth of information about dynamical phenomena in different media and fields, which will be of considerable interest to both scientists and graduate students.

Book Synopsis Progress in Aeronautical Sciences by : D. Küchemann
Download or read book Progress in Aeronautical Sciences written by D. Küchemann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Aeronautical Sciences, Volume 10 provides information pertinent to the development in aeronautical sciences. This book discusses a variety of topics, including thermoelasticity, turbulent boundary, as well as the manufacturing methods, reliability, problem areas, and applications under development in fluidic systems. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the theoretical problems of elasticity. This text then discusses the state of research in the complex fields of turbulent boundary layers with fluid injections. Other chapters consider as well the problems of supersonic flow past wings and bodies. This book discusses as well the flow in hypersonic wakes in ionized gases. The reader is also introduced to the possible applications of the compressible turbulent boundary layer with fluid injection. The final chapter discusses the components used in fluidic systems, which are described with emphasis on their general system of operation and general properties. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.
Book Synopsis Steady-State Problems of Nonlinear Electro-Magneto-Thermo-Elasticity by : Robert C. Rogers
Download or read book Steady-State Problems of Nonlinear Electro-Magneto-Thermo-Elasticity written by Robert C. Rogers and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper studies the steady-state behavior of solids that can sustain mechanical, electromagnetic, and thermal effects. The authors examine a class of boundary-value problems for a quasilinear system of functional differential equations that is derived from a very general model for such materials. They propose a physically reasonable constitutive theory which leaves this system amenable to modern methods of partial differential equations. The principal assumption is a modified version of the strong ellipticity condition. Part I proves existence results for the general system under some special physical assumptions (rigidity and hyperelasticity). The formulation admits non-local interactions caused by the magnetic 'self-field' generated by the deformed, conducting body. Part II shows the existence and regularity of solutions of a system of functional ordinary differential equations arising from a semi-inverse problem in a more comprehensive physical situation. Keywords: Smooth solutions; Polyconvex energy functions; Electro-elastic coupling; Magneto-elastic coupling; Conducting rods; Thermo-elastic coupling. (Author).
