A juzgar por como suele plantearse su ensenanza, se llega a la conclusion de que se aprende a proyectar directamente con la practica. Un programa, un solar y los consejos de un profesor se consideran suficientes para adiestrarse en la concepcion de la arquitectura. Probablemente, la identificacion de la modernidad con la invencion favorecio una patologia tan extendida: asi, se fue poblando la tierra de aprendices de geniecillos incultos e incompetentes, mito del que hace decadas se estan cosechando los frutos. Este ensayo se limita a proponer un modo alternativo de aprender a proyectar, basado en la (re)construccion de edificios ejemplares. En definitiva, no propone mas que recuperar lo que habia sido habitual en la ensenanza de las artes durante siglos. Se trata, en fin, de una argumentacion del planteamiento, una seleccion de edificios para la ETSAB -otras escuelas deberian elaborarse su elenco- y una sistematica de desarrollo de los trabajos.

Pretende, asimismo, rescatar la idea de unidades vecinales, la relación entre espacio público y comunidad, los valores y posibilidades de un urbanismo más abierto y las diferentes estructuras familiares frente a la actual estandarización del usuario.
