Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ESTE LIBRO EXPLICA CON PROSA CLARA CÓMO SE LEGITIMA HOY EL ORDEN SOCIAL Y ARROJA UNA MIRADA INNOVADORA PARA ENTENDER LAS IDEOLOGÍAS EN LA SOCIEDAD ACTUAL.
Book Synopsis Making Waves Anniversary Volume by : Ann Davies

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender and women’s studies have formed part of the academic landscape for many years, but while the field is now established enough to have developed in depth and perspectives, there remain many areas of significance yet to be explored–most significantly, much of the work carried out has remained rooted in the Anglo-American context. Those working outside this context are increasingly aware of the need to understand women in different cultural contexts in order to determine whether, to what extent and how representations of women and cultural contexts are interactive and dynamic concepts. The current volume contributes to the growing interest in the field of women and culture in the Hispanic and Lusophone worlds and shows how women writers, researchers, teachers and students have always made waves to counteract the complacency, prejudice and tradition that threatens to ignore or subsume them. The volume draws on literary study–the starting point for much of the early work on gender in Spain, the Lusophone world and Latin America–but also goes beyond it, to discuss women’s interaction not only with literature but also with art, and language itself, in the Hispanic and Lusophone contexts. It acts as a showcase for contemporary scholarship undertaken in Hispanic and Lusophone gender studies, developing earlier insights and forging new ones, to refine the debate continuing in the subject. The contributors include both established scholars with a proven track record and promising newcomers to the field. The volume arises from the individual research projects and sustained discussions of Women in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies (WiSPs), an organisation that exists to promote scholarship by and about women in the field of Iberian, Lusophone and Latin American Studies. This volume celebrates the first seven years of WiSPs's life and presents some of the research presented under its auspices at annual conferences and study days.

Book Synopsis Narratives of Environmental Challenges in Brazil and India by : Zélia M. Bora
Download or read book Narratives of Environmental Challenges in Brazil and India written by Zélia M. Bora and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-11-15 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Narratives of Environmental Challenges in Brazil and India: Losing Nature, edited by Zelia Bora and Murali Sivaramakrishnan, contextualizes the two subcontinents of India and Brazil and closely examines environmental issues from within and without. This collection focuses largely on the fate of forests and water in these two geographical terrains. This book explores narratives that reflect transformations: hitherto unprecedented demographic expansions, exploitation of natural resources, pollution and depletion of river and fresh water sources, uncontrollable demands on the energy front, waste and garbage disposal, drastic reduction of biodiversity. All of these are factors to research when one considers “losing nature.” In philosophical as well as theoretical terms the question of what is nature, what is gained and lost in human-nature interaction, what is the essential “balance” of nature, are all important queries on a similar scale. Societal reality in present day Brazil and India is reconstructed and deconstructed at will by the powerful influence of the past alongside that of globalization and technocratic market structures. The volume contemplates the representation and interrogation of environmental issues in both subcontinents, Brazil and India.
Book Synopsis Science Fiction in Argentina by : Joanna Page
Download or read book Science Fiction in Argentina written by Joanna Page and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has become something of a critical commonplace to claim that science fiction does not actually exist in Argentina. This book puts that claim to rest by identifying and analyzing a rich body of work that fits squarely in the genre. Joanna Page explores a range of texts stretching from 1875 to the present day and across a variety of media-literature, cinema, theatre, and comics-and studies the particular inflection many common discourses of science fiction (e.g., abuse of technology by authoritarian regimes, apocalyptic visions of environmental catastrophe) receive in the Argentine context. A central aim is to historicize these texts, showing how they register and rework the contexts of their production, particularly the hallmarks of modernity as a social and cultural force in Argentina. Another aim, held in tension with the first, is to respond to an important critique of historicism that unfolds in these texts. They frequently unpick the chronology of modernity, challenging the linear, universalizing models of development that underpin historicist accounts. They therefore demand a more nuanced set of readings that work to supplement, revise, and enrich the historicist perspective.
Book Synopsis El tiempo congelado by : Luigi Onnis
Download or read book El tiempo congelado written by Luigi Onnis and published by Editorial GEDISA. This book was released on 2016-04-18 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book En Armonía con la Ley written by Calixto Acosta and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-10 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
