La importancia de la concepción que ofrece no reside tanto en el modelo que presenta (modelo de máquina mecánica compuesta de poleas, palancas, fluidos, sólidos, etc., y que responde a la ciencia y a la técnica de la época) sino en el hecho de que por primera vez la conducta humana (tanto en su aspecto meramente fisiológico como en el psicológico) se hace depender del funcionamiento del cerebro-mente. Avanza en su tesis aspectos que la moderna psicología científica acepta como axiomas.
