Book Synopsis The Poor in Liberation Theology by : Tim Noble
Download or read book The Poor in Liberation Theology written by Tim Noble and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liberation theology has, since its beginnings over forty years ago, placed the poor at the heart of theology and revealed the ideologies underlying both society and church. Meanwhile, over this period, the progressive church appears to have stagnated and the poor of Latin America have turned increasingly to neo-Pentecostalism. 'The Poor in Liberation Theology' questions whether the effect of liberation theology is to provide a pathway to God or really to construct idols out of the poor. Combining the conceptual language of the philosophers Jean-Luc Marion and Emmanuel Levinas with the methodology of the liberation theologian Clodovis Boff, the volume outlines how liberation theology can work to ensure the poor do not become an ideological construct but remain icons of God. Drawing on a wealth of material from Latin American and Europe, the book demonstrates the continuing validity and importance of liberation theology and its further potential when engaged with contemporary philosophy.
Book Synopsis Jacques Derrida (Routledge Revivals) by : William Schultz
Download or read book Jacques Derrida (Routledge Revivals) written by William Schultz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-06-17 with total page 945 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1992, this book represents the first major attempt to compile a bibliography of Derrida’s work and scholarship about his work. It attempts to be comprehensive rather than selective, listing primary and secondary works from the year of Derrida’s Master’s thesis in 1954 up until 1991, and is extensively annotated. It arranges under article type a huge number of works from scholars across numerous fields — reflecting the interdisciplinary and controversial nature of Deconstruction. The substantial introduction and annotations also make this bibliography, in part, a critical guide and as such will make a highly useful reference tool for those studying his philosophy.

This book was released on 2006-06-30 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human being is today at the center of scientific, social, ethical and philosophical debates. The Human Condition-in-the-unity-of-everything-there-is-alive, under whose aegis the present selection of essays falls, offers the urgently needed new approach to reinvestigating humanness. While recent advances in the neurosciences, genetics and bio-engineering challenge the traditional abstract conception of "human nature", indicating its transformability, thus putting in question the main tenets of traditional philosophical anthropology, in the new perspective of the Human Creative Condition the human individual is seen in its emergence and unfolding within the dynamic networks of the logos of life, and within the evolution of living types. Just the same, the creative logos of the mind lifts the human person into a sphere of freedom. Within the networks of the logos we retrieve the classical principles – human subject, ego, self, body, soul, person – reinterpret them to counter the naturalistic critique (Tymieniecka). Thus principles of a new philosophical anthropology satisfying the requirements of the present time are laid down.

Book Synopsis The Faith of the People by : Orlando O. Espín
Download or read book The Faith of the People written by Orlando O. Espín and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Popular Catholicism is one of the most distinctive elements of Latino culture, an essential dimension of any project of Latino theology. In The Faith of the People Orlando Espin presents the most concentrated and systematic reflection on this theme. Examining such traditions as devotion to the crucified Christ and to the Virgin of Guadalupe, Espin shows how Popular Catholicism offers a source for vital insight into such theological issues as the nature of God, the Trinity, Christology, and salvation. As Espin explains, it is a matter of taking seriously the expressions of faith of ordinary people - not simply as a sociological phenomenon or a "pastoral problem," but as a font of intuition, wisdom, and living revelation." "As Robert Goizueta observes in his Foreword, The Faith of the People has great significance for the church as a whole, as it struggles with the issues raised in an increasingly polycentric and multicultural time. The stubborn faith of Latino Catholics in the ultimate goodness of life, even in the midst of affliction, remains at the heart of Latino Popular Catholicism. This faith in God's gift not only to the U.S. Latino community but to the entire church and to all peoples."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
