La integración regional promoviendo la construcción de proyectos y megaproyectos en territorio amazónico, abre el debate sobre el futuro de la Amazonía ya que su cuidado y protección significa el cuidado del futuro de la humanidad y del planeta; En este trabajo se intenta determinar si la integración regional ha superado la visión economicista, centrada en el modelo mercantilista que explota y depreda todo, que piensa en los beneficios económicos, en desmedro de los pueblos amazónicos y la naturaleza, que quiere lucrar hoy sin pensar en las generaciones próximas. Nos interesa conocer si la integración regional entiende que la Amazonía es un espacio vital con stocks de carbono, agua dulce, alta concentración de biodiversidad y proveedores de otros servicios ecosistémicos, que su biomasa es de alto valor para regular el clima global y es una garantía para la seguridad alimentaria y medicinal tanto de sus habitantes y de todo el planeta.Esta publicación analizará la política pública, la participación ciudadana, y el desarrollo en la Amazonía, además, intentará hacer conocer acerca de la incidencia de los proyectos y megaproyectos en la gran región amazónica, presentará también algunos casos emblemáticos de vulneración de derechos de los pueblos amazónicos, el autor despojándose de la lógica urbana propone el contenido de este trabajo buscando siempre y en lo posible hacerlo desde la perspectiva de los afectados, des-de la cosmovisión de los pueblos ancestrales amazónicos que han demostrado mantener una relación y reciprocidad armónica con el medio ambiente. Finalmente se hace un acercamiento a la propuesta del Buen Vivir como propuesta de desarrollo alternativo y como nuevo paradigma de relacionalidad socio-ambiental.

Uncovering its roots in tropical fieldwork and the southward expansion of U.S. empire at the turn of the twentieth century, Megan Raby details how ecologists took advantage of growing U.S. landholdings in the circum-Caribbean by establishing permanent field stations for long-term, basic tropical research.
