Book Synopsis Libro de Margery Kempe by : Margery Kempe
Download or read book Libro de Margery Kempe written by Margery Kempe and published by Universitat de València. This book was released on 2015-05-16 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Love and Despair by : Jaime M. Pensado
Download or read book Love and Despair written by Jaime M. Pensado and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-06-13 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Love and Despair explores the multiple and mostly unknown ways progressive and conservative Catholic actors, such as priests, lay activists, journalists, intellectuals, and filmmakers, responded to the significant social and cultural shifts that formed competing notions of modernity in Cold War Mexico. Jaime M. Pensado demonstrates how the Catholic Church as a heterogeneous institution--with key transnational networks in Latin America and Western Europe--was invested in youth activism, state repression, and the counterculture from the postwar period to the more radical Sixties. Similar to their secular counterparts, progressive Catholics often saw themselves as revolutionary actors and nearly always framed their activism as an act of love. When their movements were repressed and their ideas were co-opted, marginalized, and commercialized at the end of the Sixties, the liberating hope of love often turned into a sense of despair.

Book Synopsis The Routledge Research Companion to Early Modern Spanish Women Writers by : Nieves Baranda
Download or read book The Routledge Research Companion to Early Modern Spanish Women Writers written by Nieves Baranda and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-08-14 with total page 787 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Spain, the two hundred years that elapsed between the beginning of the early modern period and the final years of the Habsburg Empire saw a profusion of works written by women. Whether secular or religious, noble or middle class, early modern Spanish women actively composed creative works such as poetry, prose narratives, and plays. The Routledge Research Companion to Early Modern Spanish Women Writers covers the broad array of different kinds of writings – literary as well as extra-literary – that these women wrote, taking into consideration their subject positions and the cultural and historical contexts that influenced and were influenced by them. Beyond merely recognizing the individual women authors who had influence in literary, religious, and intellectual circles, this Research Companion investigates their participation in these circles through their writings, as well as the ways in which their texts informed Spain’s cultural production during the early modern period. In order to contextualize women’s writings across the historical and cultural spectrum of early modern Spain, the Research Companion is divided into six sections of general thematic interest: Women’s Worlds; Conventual Spaces; Secular Literature; Women in the Public Sphere; Private Circles; Women Travelers. Each section is subdivided into chapters that focus on specific issues or topics.

Trabajas en una oficina, aconsejas a los demás, te involucras en obras sociales y cuidas la casa. Cuando terminas parece que no has hecho nada… ¡y yo te reclamo! Siempre he reprochado que gastas demasiado.

Book excerpt: Beatriz Luengo discovers us the most intimate part of twelve creative muses, who weren't recognized at their times, and in which, as in a mirror, she reflects herself confessing her own truth as a woman and artist. This sincere self portrait, in which she undresses before the reader, is an admirable literary mosaic that joins history, fiction, poetry and personal thoughts and vindicates the need to understand the feminist plight as it truly is: a movement for human rights.
Book Synopsis Women, Feminism, and Social Change in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, 1890-1940 by : Asuncion Lavrin
Download or read book Women, Feminism, and Social Change in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, 1890-1940 written by Asuncion Lavrin and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feminists in the Southern Cone countries?Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay?between 1910 and 1930 obliged political leaders to consider gender in labor regulation, civil codes, public health programs, and politics. Feminism thus became a factor in the modernization of theseøgeographically linked but diverse societies in Latin America. Although feminists did not present a unified front in the discussion of divorce, reproductive rights, and public-health schemes to regulate sex and marriage, this work identifies feminism as a trigger for such discussion, which generated public and political debate on gender roles and social change. Asunci¢n Lavrin recounts changes inøgender relations and the role of women in each of the three countries, thereby contributing an enormous amount of new information and incisive analysis to the histories of Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay.

Book Synopsis Desired States by : Lessie Jo Frazier
Download or read book Desired States written by Lessie Jo Frazier and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-12 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Desired States challenges the notion that in some cultures, sex and sexuality have become privatized and located in individual subjectivity rather than in public political practices and institutions. Instead, the book contends that desire is a central aspect of political culture. Based on fieldwork and archival research, Frazier explores the gendered and sexualized dynamics of political culture in Chile, an imperialist context, asking how people connect with and become mobilized in political projects in some cases or, in others, become disaffected or are excluded to varying degrees. The book situates the state in a rich and changing context of transnational and localized movements, imperialist interests, geo-political conflicts, and market forces to explore the broader struggles of desiring subjects, especially in those dimensions of life that are explicitly sexual and amorous: free love movements, marriage, the sixties’ sexual revolution in Cold War contexts, prostitution policies, ideas about men’s gratification, the charisma of leaders, and sexual/domestic violence against women.
