Book Synopsis Post-Conflict Central American Literature by : Yvette Aparicio
Download or read book Post-Conflict Central American Literature written by Yvette Aparicio and published by Bucknell University Press. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Post-Conflict Central American Literature: Searching for Home and Longing to Belong studies often-overlooked contemporary poetry. Through the exploration of poetry and a select number of short stories, this book contemplates the meanings of home, belonging, and the homeland in post-conflict, globalizing, and neoliberal El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. Aparicio analyzes literary representations of and meditations on the current conditions as well as the recent pasts of Central American homelands. Additionally, the book highlights aesthetic renditions of home at the same time that it engages with and is grounded in contemporary Central American cultures, politics, and societies. In effect, this book contests hegemonic and apparently commonsense views that assert that globalization produces global citizenship and globalized experiences. Instead it argues that a palpable desire for home and belonging survives and thrives in rapidly globalizing Central American homelands.
Book Synopsis Enciclopedia Akal de Emblemas Españoles Ilustrados by : Antonio Bernat Vistarini
Download or read book Enciclopedia Akal de Emblemas Españoles Ilustrados written by Antonio Bernat Vistarini and published by Ediciones AKAL. This book was released on 1999-05-27 with total page 956 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis The Liberating Philosophy of Ignacio Ellacuría by : Luis Arturo Martínez Vásquez
Download or read book The Liberating Philosophy of Ignacio Ellacuría written by Luis Arturo Martínez Vásquez and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2024-01-16 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Liberating Philosophy of Ignacio Ellacuría: Historical Reality, Humanism, and Praxis is the first systematic work on the philosophy of Ignacio Ellacuría to be published in English so far. The Spaniard-Salvadorian philosopher—murdered in Salvador in 1989 by the military—maintains that philosophy is a permanent task grounded in metaphysics as first philosophy, as developed within a historical reality and a preferential option for the poor. As explored by this collection edited by Luis Arturo Martínez Vásquez, Randall Carrera Umaña, and Luis Rubén Díaz Cepeda, Ellacuría's theory is a critical and practical proposal immersed in the colonial history of Central America, but its explanatory and normative power extends to oppressed people all around the world. The contributors to this volume, coming from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Salvador, and Costa Rica, analyze Ellacuría's philosophy of liberation in conjunction with radical realism and strength, describing it as "a philosophy created by people concerned with the problems and history of our land—such as our colonial past, systemic poverty and dependency—and… responding to these concerns can offer alternatives for a true liberation of all the dominated peoples of the world."

Book Synopsis Prospero's Daughter by : Joanna O'Connell
Download or read book Prospero's Daughter written by Joanna O'Connell and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2010-07-22 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A member of Mexico's privileged upper class, yet still subordinated because of her gender, Rosario Castellanos became one of Latin America's most influential feminist social critics. Joanna O'Connell here offers the first book-length study of all Castellanos' prose writings, focusing specifically on how Castellanos' experiences as a Mexican woman led her to an ethic of solidarity with the oppressed peoples of her home state of Chiapas. O'Connell provides an original and detailed analysis of Castellanos' first venture into feminist cultural analysis in her essay Sobre cultura feminina (1950) and traces her moral and intellectual trajectory as feminist and social critic. An overview of Mexican indigenismo establishes the context for individual chapters on Castellanos' narratives of ethnic conflict (the novels Balún Canán and Oficio de tinieblas and the short stories of Ciudad Real). In further chapters O'Connell reads Los convidados de agosto,Album de familia, and Castellanos' four collections of essays as developments of her feminist social analysis.

Book Synopsis Cazadores Bajo Ataque by : LIC Viviano Villarreal Cueva
Download or read book Cazadores Bajo Ataque written by LIC Viviano Villarreal Cueva and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
