Pero tal necesidad no hace que esta «historia» se limite a u enumeración de nombres propios y a una simple descripción de formas y estilos. Intentaremos ahondar en el lenguaje del arte. Además, este manual no sería historia del arte «cristiano», si detrás de la diversidad de estilo no se alcanzase a ver la «vida» del cristianismo y si, en la percepción de tales formas sensibles, no se hiciera gustar el espiritual «sabor de la fe cristiana: “Sapientia fidei”.
