Ohne die quantitativen Methoden der mathematischen Psychologie sind experimentelle Befunde selten generalisierbar - Psychologen stoßen überraschend häufig auf "Ratewahrscheinlichkeiten", sprich Zufälle statt wirklicher Zusammenhänge zwischen Eigenschaften von Versuchspersonen und ihrem Lösen einer Versuchsaufgabe. Jens Wandmacher bettet die mathematischen Arbeitswerkzeuge der Psychologie geschickt in ausführliche Grundüberlegungen zum rationalen Argumentieren und Schlußfolgern ein, so dass die mathematische Psychologie sich dem Anfänger verständlich erschließt. Der Lohn der Lernmühe: Am Ende weiß man, warum die Korrelation zwischen der Zahl der Störche und den Geburten keine Kausalbeziehung ausdrückt - und der Storch nicht die Kinder verursacht. Oder man kann die Bereitschaft im Wiles-Experiment (?), bei dem 30% (?) der Probanden tödliche Elektroschocks als Strafe austeilten, mit anderen Augen sehen, wenn man weiß, dass 50% der angeworbenen Versuchspersonen sich von vornherein weigerten, an diesem "Strafexperiment" teilzunehmen.

Einfacher, klarer Aufbau: Der Aufbau der Fragen sollte kurze, grammatikalisch einfache, Formulierungen und keine doppelten Verneinungen beinhalten. Lange, verschachtelte Sätze, wie sie in der schriftlichen Form gebraucht werden, sind für das Verständnis und die Interaktion nicht förderlich.
