Bioinformatics: Managing Scientific Data tackles this challenge head-on by discussing the current approaches and variety of systems available to help bioinformaticians with this increasingly complex issue. Digital editions should offer a facility where researchers can store structured and unstructured observations with respect to the edited texts. This book discusses a number of approaches to annotation systems in the context of the study of emblems, the sixteenth and seventeenth century literary genre that joins an image, a motto and an often moralizing epigram. When handled properly, annotation can become mesotext, text positioned between the annotated texts and the scholarly articles and monographs for which the annotations provide the evidence. In a digital context, it should be possible to navigate back and forth between annotated text, annotation and article. Peter Boot was born in 1961. He studied Mathematics in Leiden and Dutch Language and Culture in Utrecht, where he specialised in Older Dutch Literature. They allow complex analysis based on integrated datasets. These integrated datasets, also known as data warehouses, are based on systems with different technologies and content. AIS are complex software systems. During their build-up, many technical aspects, such as connection and data transformation for the involved data sources, or the definition of analysis schemas, have to be considered. Therefore, an integrated creation of these systems is difficult. In this book, the autoMAIS approach, which improves the AIS creation process, is introduced. Within this approach, techniques of model-driven software development are used to create an integrated view on the AIS creation process. To do so, the AIS creation process is split up into different aspects. Each identified aspect is described with a domain-specific language and techniques of software language engineering. For language development, already existing textual or graphical languages are used or adapted. The developed languages are integrated into one single meta model which describes the complete resulting AIS. The transformations enable the generation of an AIS. The creation of the language instances and the generation of the AIS are guided by a process model.
