De plus, les enseignants engagés dans ce projet ont rapporté avoir développé une plus grande compétence dans leur enseignement de la lecture et de l'écriture et une meilleure compréhension des caractéristiques des textes informatifs présents dans toutes les disciplines scolaires. Book excerpt: « Cette recherche a pour but de connaitre l’impact du journal dialogué sur la compétence orale en anglais, langue seconde, d’élèves de 6e année du primaire. Le journal dialogué est une pratique d’écriture libre au plan de la forme, au cours de laquelle l’élève converse, à l’écrit, avec son enseignant d’anglais. Cette étude s’est donc penchée sur le lien unissant les compétences langagières, tout particulièrement les habiletés de production du langage, soit la communication orale et l’écriture. Deux hypothèses de recherche sont au cœur de cette étude : 1. le journal dialogué contribue au développement de la compétence orale des élèves ; 2. le journal dialogué est plus efficace qu’un enseignement sans journal dialogué pour développer la compétence orale des élèves. Afin de valider ces hypothèses, un protocole de recherche de type quasi expérimental a été appliqué. Ainsi, après avoir réalisé un prétest pour évaluer le niveau de compétence à l’oral en anglais des élèves de deux groupes de 6e année, un de ceux-ci, le groupe expérimental (n=19), a participé à l’écriture d’un journal dialogué avec leur enseignante d’anglais sur une période de 15 semaines. Pendant cette même période, le groupe témoin (n=17) a bénéficié de ses cours d’anglais habituels, sans journal dialogué. Suite à la période d’expérimentation, le niveau de compétence à l’oral en anglais a été évalué à nouveau lors d’un posttest. À la lumière des analyses réalisées, il semble que le journal dialogué a permis aux participants du groupe expérimental de s’améliorer à l’oral dans leur langue seconde. Toutefois, la comparaison des deux groupes dans le temps n’a pas fait ressortir de différence significative entre le développement de la compétence orale du groupe expérimental et celui du groupe témoin. Il n’est donc pas possible d’affirmer que le journal dialogué est plus efficace qu’un enseignement sans journal dialogué pour développer l’oral.
