Il est donc difficile pour les élèves de comprendre des textes, ne sachant pas comment l'auteur a procédé. À l'inverse, lorsqu'ils écrivent, ils n'ont pas tendance à se mettre dans la peau du lecteur. Cette recherche a donc développé une approche qui articule la lecture et l'écriture de textes informatifs afin de faire prendre conscience aux élèves des connaissances partagées entre ces activités. Grâce à la collaboration d'enseignants, de conseillers pédagogiques et de bibliothécaires, des séquences d'activités misant sur le lien entre la lecture et l'écriture de phrases, de paragraphes et de textes ont été expérimentées pendant deux ans dans 12 classes de la 4e à la 6e année du primaire. Ces séquences ont permis aux élèves de développer des connaissances sur les caractéristiques et les structures de textes informatifs, qui se sont avérées bénéfiques en lecture et en écriture et qui leur ont permis de s'améliorer davantage que d'autres élèves n'ayant pas reçu cet enseignement. De plus, les enseignants engagés dans ce projet ont rapporté avoir développé une plus grande compétence dans leur enseignement de la lecture et de l'écriture et une meilleure compréhension des caractéristiques des textes informatifs présents dans toutes les disciplines scolaires. Ce développement professionnel, qui conjuguait des formations sur des objets de savoir précis en lecture et en écriture, puis du soutien en classe par des chercheurs et des conseillers pédagogiques, a bonifié leurs connaissances et leurs pratiques d'enseignement." -- Site web de l'éditeur.

Le journal dialogué est une pratique d’écriture libre au plan de la forme, au cours de laquelle l’élève converse, à l’écrit, avec son enseignant d’anglais. Cette étude s’est donc penchée sur le lien unissant les compétences langagières, tout particulièrement les habiletés de production du langage, soit la communication orale et l’écriture. Deux hypothèses de recherche sont au cœur de cette étude : 1. le journal dialogué contribue au développement de la compétence orale des élèves ; 2. le journal dialogué est plus efficace qu’un enseignement sans journal dialogué pour développer la compétence orale des élèves. Afin de valider ces hypothèses, un protocole de recherche de type quasi expérimental a été appliqué. Ainsi, après avoir réalisé un prétest pour évaluer le niveau de compétence à l’oral en anglais des élèves de deux groupes de 6e année, un de ceux-ci, le groupe expérimental (n=19), a participé à l’écriture d’un journal dialogué avec leur enseignante d’anglais sur une période de 15 semaines. Pendant cette même période, le groupe témoin (n=17) a bénéficié de ses cours d’anglais habituels, sans journal dialogué. Suite à la période d’expérimentation, le niveau de compétence à l’oral en anglais a été évalué à nouveau lors d’un posttest. À la lumière des analyses réalisées, il semble que le journal dialogué a permis aux participants du groupe expérimental de s’améliorer à l’oral dans leur langue seconde. Toutefois, la comparaison des deux groupes dans le temps n’a pas fait ressortir de différence significative entre le développement de la compétence orale du groupe expérimental et celui du groupe témoin. Il n’est donc pas possible d’affirmer que le journal dialogué est plus efficace qu’un enseignement sans journal dialogué pour développer l’oral. Les résultats de cette étude permettent donc de considérer le journal dialogué comme une intervention didactique digne d’intérêt pour les enseignants d’anglais, langue seconde, désireux de rentabiliser leur temps d’enseignement en développant plus d’une habileté langagière à la fois. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en français : journal dialogué, anglais langue seconde, compétence orale, enseignement intégré, approche communicative. »--

The present volume provides a review of learning assessments, their status in terms of the empirical knowledge base, and some new ideas for improving their effectiveness, particularly for those children most in need. It is argued here that SQC learning assessments have the potential to enhance educational accountability, increase transparency, and support a greater engagement of stakeholders with an interest in improving learning. In addition, countries need a sustained policy to guide assessment choices, including a focus on poor and marginalized populations.
