Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two of the most acclaimed reference works in the area of acoustics in recent years have been our Encyclopedia of Acoustics, 4 Volume set and the Handbook of Acoustics spin-off. These works, edited by Malcolm Crocker, positioned Wiley as a major player in the acoustics reference market. With our recently published revision of Beranek & Ver's Noise and Vibration Control Engineering, Wiley is a highly respected name in the acoustics business. Crocker's new handbook covers an area of great importance to engineers and designers. Noise and vibration control is one largest areas of application of the acoustics topics covered in the successful encyclopedia and handbook. It is also an area that has been under-published in recent years. Crocker has positioned this reference to cover the gamut of topics while focusing more on the applications to industrial needs. In this way the book will become the best single source of need-to-know information for the professional markets.

Book excerpt: High standards of NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) performance are expected by consumers of all modern cars. Refinement is one of the main engineering and design attributes to be addressed in the course of developing new vehicle models and vehicle components. Written for students and engineering practitioners, this is the first book to address automotive NVH. It will help readers to understand and develop quieter, more comfortable cars. With chapters on the fundamentals of acoustics and detailed coverage of practical engineering solutions for noise control issues it is suitable for students of automotive engineering and engineers who haven't been trained in acoustics, and will be an important reference for practicing engineers in the motor industry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides systematic methodology for investigating, evaluating, and designing controls for noise emanating from internal combustion engines, or from the addition of necessary components, with emphasis on control at the source of the noise. Deals with noise control on a component-by-component basis. Discusses control along the path of propagation, the effects of operating parameters on the noise level that an engine can produce, and silencers as a means of noise control. Assesses damping and isolation treatments, and sets forth a noise and vibration monitoring methodology to meet design goals and quality standards consistently.

This book was released on 2016 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The expansion chamber muffler is an effective device for noise reduction in duct systems. The transmission loss of the single expansion muffler has a periodic character that is often used for the periodic noise control. The Bloch wave theory and the transfer matrix method are used to study the wave propagation in periodic expansion chamber mufflers and the dispersion characteristics are examined. The theory is validated against finite element method simulation. Compared to a single expansion chamber muffler, the stopbands of the finite periodic structure is mainly due to its dispersion characteristics. With different configuration, the results indicate that the periodic structure can enhance the transmission loss within a narrower frequency range or change effective noise control frequency ranges with different distance between mufflers. Because of the high acoustic resistance and low mass reactance due to the sub-millimeter perforation, the micro-perforated muffler can provide considerable sound attenuation of duct noise. The wave propagation in periodic micro-perforated mufflers is studied theoretically, numerically and experimentally. This study indicates that the combination of the Bragg reflection due to the periodic structure and the resonance of the micro-perforated muffler can result in different transmission loss. The proposed periodic placement of micro-perforated mufflers can provide lower frequency noise control within a broader frequency range or enhance transmission loss around the resonant frequency.

Book excerpt: Advanced Applications in Acoustics, Noise and Vibration provides comprehensive and up-to-date overviews of knowledge, applications and research activities in a range of topics that are of current interest in the practice of engineering acoustics and vibration technology. The thirteen chapters are grouped into four parts: signal processing, acoustic modelling, environmental and industrial acoustics, and vibration. Following on from its companion volume Fundamentals of Noise and Vibration this book is based partly on material covered in a selection of elective modules in the second semester of the Masters programme in 'Sound and Vibration Studies' of the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton, UK and partly on material presented in the annual ISVR short course 'Advanced Course in Acoustics, Noise and Vibration'.

Book excerpt: This giant reference, sponsored by the American Gas Association and written by a staff of 150 specialists, answers any general or specific engineering information requirement in regard to natural, liquefied petroleum, and manufactured gases. It presents in concise, orderly fashion all "working" facts and data on fuel gases needed by engineers, industry, and government personnel. The Handbook brings together in one volume and 125 chapters all conceivable engineering methods and operating data of the entire gas industry, from source to burner. Tables, graphs, charts, equations, and illustrations clarify and illuminate a text that is crammed with the kind of information that is virtually unobtainable elsewhere.
