Book Synopsis Leading Edge Heat Transfer Rates in the Region of an Impinging Shock by : J. Vasiliu
Download or read book Leading Edge Heat Transfer Rates in the Region of an Impinging Shock written by J. Vasiliu and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three-dimensional problem of a bow-shock impingement on a leading edge is reduced to the two-dimensional case by considering the flow in a plane passing through the stagnation line of the leading edge and the forebody axis. A method of computing the bow shock-leading edge shock intersection on this plane is presented. The solution of this problem provides the inviscid flow parameters required in the calculation of the heat transfer rate in the shock impingement region. The method of estimating the shock strength required to cause separation is considered. For pure laminar separations at the stagnation line of the leading edge, under hypersonic flow conditions, a simple relation is obtained for the ratio of the average heat transfer rate in separated flow to the stagnation line heat transfer rate, and for the ratio of the corresponding coefficients. It is found that, this latter can attain a maximum value of two, for extremely high Mach numbers and sweep angles. The procedure for calculating accurately heat transfer rates for either fully laminar or fully turbulent separations is also given in detail. (Author).

This book was released on 1973 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical and experimental study is presented of the aerodynamic heating resulting from six types of shock interference patterns encountered in high speed flow. Centerline measurements of pressure and heat transfer distributions on basic bodies were obtained in four wind tunnels for Mach numbers from 6 to 20, specific heat ratios from 1.27 to 1.67, and free stream Reynolds numbers from 3 million to 25.6 million per meter. Peak heating and peak pressures up to 17 and 7.5 times stagnation values, respectively, were measured. In general, results obtained from semiempirical methods developed for each of the six types of interference agreed with the experimental peaks.
