Book excerpt: Excerpt from Effects of Reclaimed Gin-Loss Cotton on Lint Quality and Spinning Performance Fiber arrays for reclaimed gin - loss cotton and for ginned lint showed that the overall length of gin-loss cotton was shorter than ginned lint from the same bale. E/ Array test results for this study were not consistent with this relationship, blended lots showed less short fiber than nonblended lots. Even though reclaimed fiber was blended into a bale continuously during gin ning, its small proportional share of the total mass would.make it particularty difficult to obtain representative fiber arrays. The significant difference in micronaire readings was probably due to inherent variability of cotton fibers. Since both lots had average fineness, the slight difference is probably not of practical importance. Nonblended and blended lots differed significantly in percent of waste removed by opening and picking, and carding processes. Blended lots averaged percent more total waste than nonblended lots (table This means that a blended 500-pound bale had pounds more waste than a nonblended.bale. However, according to the test results, an average of pounds of reclaimed fiber was added.per 500 pounds for blended lots. Thus, assuming that the pound increase in opener, picker, and card waste was due to blending. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Multiple Lint Cleaning at Cotton Gins: Effects on Bale Value, Fiber Properties, and Spinning Performance Nevertheless, as the practice of lint cleaning, and particularly multiple lint cleaning, became more common, growers, ginners, manufacturers, and others have expressed serious doubts about its effects on the quality of cotton and about the economic soundness of it. Growers and ginners have raised questions about the effects of lint cleaning on returns to growers and on ginning costs. Manufacturers have expressed doubts about the effects of lint cleaning on the fiber properties of cotton, on the spinning performance of cleaned cotton, and on the quality of yarns made from such cotton. Claims have been made that lint cleaning so seriously damages cotton fibers that it increases manufacturing costs, reduces the quality of textile products, and reduces the competitive position of cotton in relation to other fibers. Because of the serious nature of these questions in terms of the long-run interest of all segments of the cotton and textile industry, the U. S. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the key technologies and characteristics of the modern man-made specialty fibers mainly developed in Japan. Since the production of many low-cost man-made fibers shifted to China and other Asian countries, Japanese companies have focused on production of high-quality, high-performance super fibers as well as highly functionalized fibers so-called ‘Shin-gosen’. ZylonTM and DyneemaTM manufactured by Toyobo, TechnoraTM produced by Teijin, and VectranTM developed by Kuraray are those examples of super fibers. Carbon fibers ToraycaTM from Toray have occupied the most advanced high-performance application area. Various types of polyester fibers having design-shaped cross-sections and special fiber morphologies and those showing specific physico-chemical properties have also been developed to acquire a high-value textile market of the world. This book describes how these high-tech fibers have been developed and what aspects are the most important in each fiber based on its structure-property relationship. Famous specialists both in industry and academia are responsible for the contents, explaining the design concepts and the special technologies for the production of these special fibers. For university teachers and students, this volume is an excellent textbook that elucidates the basic concepts of modern fibers. At the same time, researchers, both in academia and industry, will find a comprehensive overview of recent man-made fibers. This publication, presenting the most easily understandable general survey of specialty man-made fibers to date, is dedicated to the 70th-anniversary of the Society of Fiber Science and Technology, Japan.

Book excerpt: This book provides a firm analytical base to discussions about injustice and the unequal distribution of gains from global production in the form of global monopsony capitalism. It utilizes the concept of reverse subsidies as the purchase of gendered labour and environmental services below their costs of production in garment value chains in India and other garment producing countries, such as Bangladesh and Cambodia. Environmental services, such as freshwater for garment manufacture and land for cotton production, are degraded by overuse and untreated waste disposal. The resulting higher profits from the low prices of garments are captured by global brands, using their monopsony position, with few buyers and myriad sellers, in the market. This book links the concept of reverse subsidies with those of injustice, inequality and sustainability in global production.
