Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of papers presented at the 4th International Symposium on Gamma TiAl Alloys (ISGTA 2014) that was held in conjunction with the 2014 Annual Meeting of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society. Papers discuss and assess advances in application and implementation experience in current alloys, fundamental aspects in current gamma alloy materials technology, new processes development and assessment, and emerging new alloys, their potentials and limitations, and breakthroughs. Papers that originated in the panel discussion of the symposium are intended to help the scientific community realize the limitations of current alloys materials and processes and discuss possible solutions. Six topic areas selected for this purpose included: Wrought-processed alloys: status, dilemmas and pathways to future Cast alloys for aero engine applications: status, issues, and barriers to advances Cast alloys for turbocharger wheels: status and barriers to widespread applications Emerging new alloys: justification, potentials, status, and future Novel processes: justification, potential vs. realization issues, and future Future applications and realistic pathways to them

Book Synopsis Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading: Mechanisms, Mechanics and Modelling by : J. Bressers
Download or read book Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading: Mechanisms, Mechanics and Modelling written by J. Bressers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Symposium "Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading", held at Petten (The Netherlands) on May 22-24, 1995, was jointly organized by the Institute for Advanced Materials of The Joint Research Centre, E. C. , and by the Societe Fran~se de Metallurgie et de Materiaux. The fast heating and cooling cycles experienced by many high temperature components cause thermally induced stresses, which often operate in combination with mechanical loads. The resulting thermal / mechanical fatigue cycle leads to material degradation mechanisms and failure modes typical of service cycles. The growing awareness that the synergism between the combined thermal and mechanical loads can not be reproduced by means of isothermal tests, has resulted in an increasing interest in thermal and thermo-mechanical fatigue testing. This trend has been reinforced by the constant pull by industry for more performant, yet safer high temperature systems, pushing the materials to the limit of their properties. Dedicated ASTM meetings in particular have set the scene for this area of research. The proceedings of the symposium organized by D. A. Spera and D. F. Mowbray in 1975 provided a reference book on thermal fatigue which reflects the knowledge and experimental capabilities of the mid-seventies.
Book Synopsis Superalloys for Industry Applications by : Sinem Cevik
Download or read book Superalloys for Industry Applications written by Sinem Cevik and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-08-01 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, superalloys have been widespread usage in aerospace gas turbine engine parts. The main reason of it is that these materials have high yield, ultimate tensile strength, and very good corrosion/oxidation resistance, and they combine these good properties with an excellent creep resistance at elevated temperatures. In spite of their outstanding properties, superalloys can lose their mechanical strength because of wear, tear, and crack formation when they are exposed to high-service temperatures and heavy working conditions. Moreover, corrosion is another important issue for superalloys because the materials of gas turbine engine parts are exposed to harsh engine environments, which consist of many pollutants and hot gases. Therefore, special attention must be given to the corrosion behavior of superalloys. This book provides information on the interaction between the microstructure of alloys and their mechanical properties and also the position of superalloys in the manufacturing industry. Topics cover the minimization of the formation of microsegregation and detrimental phases in the GTA welding of superalloys, oxidation kinetics of nickel-based superalloys used in the manufacture of rings for aircraft engines, a review of the work done over the last two decades to understand the hot corrosion behavior of superalloys used in advanced coal-based power plants, ultrasonic-assisted machining of Inconel 718, dry high-speed turning of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy, and laser welding in dentistry. The book "Superalloys for Industry Applications" consists of contributions by scientists and engineers who are experienced in the production, design, and analysis of materials from all around the world. We hope that this book will be an irreplaceable source of study for manufacturing, degradation mechanisms, and reliability of superalloys.
