Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1963 the Research Materials Information Center has been answering inquiries on the availability, preparation, and properties of ultrapure inorganic research specimens. It has been possible to do this with reasonable efficiency by searching an automated coded microfilm collection of the report and open literature and of data sheets and question naires provided by commercial and research producers of pure materials. With the growth of the collection to over 70,000 documents and the increase in the demand for more general background information, it has been necessary to compile bibliographies on an increasing variety of subjects. These have been used as indexes to the microfilmed documents for more efficient searching, and in the past distributed in response to individual requests. However, their size and number no longer permit so casual and uneconomic a method of distribution. The "ORNL Solid State Physics Literature Guides" is a practical alternative. Organization The subject organization of the bibliography is given by the Table of Contents. Each section is preceded by a collection of reviews, bibliographies, and "general" papers (i.e., those dealing with methods or equipment rather than single materials, or with such a wide variety of materials that no subsection was appropriate). Coverage is generally from 1960 to mid-1970. Emphasis is on inorganic materials.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vacuum Technology Transactions covers the proceedings of the Sixth National Symposium on Vacuum Technology Transactions, held in Philadelphia on October 7-9, 1959, sponsored by the American Vacuum Society. This book is organized into eight parts encompassing 57 chapters. The opening part deals with the important role of spectroscopic studies in vacuum science, particularly in ultra-high-vacuum investigations. The next parts describe the production, design, and requirements of ultra-high-vacuum systems; methods of measurement and applications of vacuum systems; and the application of vacuum technology in various scientific fields. The remaining parts are devoted to thin films and their application, vacuum system components, as well as the design considerations and use of getter-ion pumps in vacuum systems. Non-specialized and specialized engineers will find this book rewarding.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Surfaces and Interfaces of Materials, Five-Volume Set by : Hari Singh Nalwa
Download or read book Handbook of Surfaces and Interfaces of Materials, Five-Volume Set written by Hari Singh Nalwa and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-10-26 with total page 1915 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook brings together, under a single cover, all aspects of the chemistry, physics, and engineering of surfaces and interfaces of materials currently studied in academic and industrial research. It covers different experimental and theoretical aspects of surfaces and interfaces, their physical properties, and spectroscopic techniques that have been applied to a wide class of inorganic, organic, polymer, and biological materials. The diversified technological areas of surface science reflect the explosion of scientific information on surfaces and interfaces of materials and their spectroscopic characterization. The large volume of experimental data on chemistry, physics, and engineering aspects of materials surfaces and interfaces remains scattered in so many different periodicals, therefore this handbook compilation is needed. The information presented in this multivolume reference draws on two decades of pioneering research on the surfaces and interfaces of materials to offer a complete perspective on the topic. These five volumes-Surface and Interface Phenomena; Surface Characterization and Properties; Nanostructures, Micelles, and Colloids; Thin Films and Layers; Biointerfaces and Applications-provide multidisciplinary review chapters and summarize the current status of the field covering important scientific and technological developments made over past decades in surfaces and interfaces of materials and spectroscopic techniques with contributions from internationally recognized experts from all over the world. Fully cross-referenced, this book has clear, precise, and wide appeal as an essential reference source long due for the scientific community. Book Synopsis Metallurgical Coatings 1988 by : R Krutenat
Download or read book Metallurgical Coatings 1988 written by R Krutenat and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metallurgical coatings 1988 is a compilation of the proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings. This volume is divided into four parts, which deal with synthesis and properties of coatings used in microelectronic applications; methods of characterizing coatings and modified surfaces; protective coatings for magnetic and optical thin film media; and thick and thin film censors. The first part of this volume is further subdivided into five sections focusing on thin film barrier layers, metallization for VLSI circuits, thin films used in packaging technology, new materials and emerging technologies and synthesis and microstructure of high Tc superconductors. The second part is also subdivided into four sections, each presenting different methods, such as the surface and thin film analysis techniques, microstructural characterization techniques, mechanical properties of films and coatings, and non-destructive characterization techniques. Part three discusses the preparation and characterization of reactively sputtered silicon nitride thin films, the bond structures and properties of chemically vapor-deposited amorphous SiC, and the wear of Co-Ni thin film magnetic recording tape against metallic and ceramic surfaces. Finally, this volume explores the insert-mounted thin film sensors for real-time.
