The present study aimed to examine the effects of a 4-week QB training on foot speed, reaction time and sport-specific agility performance in elite female tennis players. Eight collegiate female tennis players (M = 20.1 years old, SD = 1.5) were recruited and randomly assigned to either the training or control group. , The training group participated in a 20-minute QB training session twice a week across 4 weeks, in addition to their routine workload, while the control group continued their routine activities only. The results of the pre- and post-test showed that the training group significantly improved reaction drill performance than the control; however, not for foot speed drill and spider drill performances. These findings suggest that QB training will benefit foot reaction time in female collegiate tennis players, but not on sport-specific agility test performance. .

Thirty participants were recruited from local tennis teams and clubs in Ithaca, NY. Participants performed an Agility T-Test, a 505 Agility Test, a Vertical Jump Test and a Reaction Time Test in the Biomechanics Lab at Ithaca College. Multiple regression analysis revealed that BMI, years of training, PPO and reaction time best predicted agility time for both the 505 Agility Test (R2 = 0.48) and Agility T-Test (R2 = 0.64).

Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of agility training in different footwear on agility, speed and balance performance in healthy young adults. Twenty-four subjects went through a six-week agility training intervention in one of three footwear groups: barefoot, minimal footwear or traditional shoes. No group and time interactions were found but significant time main effects indicated that agility and balance performance improved from baseline to post-test. Specifically, reaction time, foot speed, static balance and, change of direction sprints were all improved as early as two weeks into the intervention, with improvements continuing through the entire six-week intervention. The lack of an interaction with time main effects suggests that specific reaction time and foot speed agility training improves agility, speed and balance performance over a six week period regardless of the type of footwear worn.
