Drainage is via the Monon gahela River to the Ohio at Pittsburgh. The five study water sheds, which range from 38 to 96 acres in area, are contiguous or nearly so. The topography, geology, soils and forest cover (fig. 2) are generally representative of this part of the Appalachians.
