Book Synopsis Explorations in Automatic Thesaurus Discovery by : Gregory Grefenstette
Download or read book Explorations in Automatic Thesaurus Discovery written by Gregory Grefenstette and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explorations in Automatic Thesaurus Discovery presents an automated method for creating a first-draft thesaurus from raw text. It describes natural processing steps of tokenization, surface syntactic analysis, and syntactic attribute extraction. From these attributes, word and term similarity is calculated and a thesaurus is created showing important common terms and their relation to each other, common verb--noun pairings, common expressions, and word family members. The techniques are tested on twenty different corpora ranging from baseball newsgroups, assassination archives, medical X-ray reports, abstracts on AIDS, to encyclopedia articles on animals, even on the text of the book itself. The corpora range from 40,000 to 6 million characters of text, and results are presented for each in the Appendix. The methods described in the book have undergone extensive evaluation. Their time and space complexity are shown to be modest. The results are shown to converge to a stable state as the corpus grows. The similarities calculated are compared to those produced by psychological testing. A method of evaluation using Artificial Synonyms is tested. Gold Standards evaluation show that techniques significantly outperform non-linguistic-based techniques for the most important words in corpora. Explorations in Automatic Thesaurus Discovery includes applications to the fields of information retrieval using established testbeds, existing thesaural enrichment, semantic analysis. Also included are applications showing how to create, implement, and test a first-draft thesaurus.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the reviews: "The book has a broad and general coverage of both the mathematics and the numerical methods well suited for graduate students." Applied Mechanics Reviews #1 "This is a very well written book. The topics are developed with separate headings making the matter easily understandable. Computer programs are also included for many problems together with a separate chapter dealing with the application of computer programs to heat transfer problems. This enhances the utility of the book." Zentralblatt für Mathematik #1
Book Synopsis Analysis of Turbulent Flows with Computer Programs by : Tuncer Cebeci
Download or read book Analysis of Turbulent Flows with Computer Programs written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-02-26 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of Turbulent Flows is written by one of the most prolific authors in the field of CFD. Professor of Aerodynamics at SUPAERO and Director of DMAE at ONERA, Professor Tuncer Cebeci calls on both his academic and industrial experience when presenting this work. Each chapter has been specifically constructed to provide a comprehensive overview of turbulent flow and its measurement. Analysis of Turbulent Flows serves as an advanced textbook for PhD candidates working in the field of CFD and is essential reading for researchers, practitioners in industry and MSc and MEng students. The field of CFD is strongly represented by the following corporate organizations: Boeing, Airbus, Thales, United Technologies and General Electric. Government bodies and academic institutions also have a strong interest in this exciting field. - An overview of the development and application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with real applications to industry - Contains a unique section on short-cut methods – simple approaches to practical engineering problems

Book Synopsis Drag of Several Surface Protrusion Patterns at M by : John A. Darling
Download or read book Drag of Several Surface Protrusion Patterns at M written by John A. Darling and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Axial forces were measured on five cylinders at M = 5 for Re = 4,000,000/ft and 37,000,000/ft. The purpose of these tests was to measure the surface drag of the cylinders for various surface protrusion patterns. Using these experimental measurements and data from J.C. Westkaemper, an expression was developed for calculating the average effective drag coefficient of one protrusion in a row of protrusions which are fully submerged in a turbulent boundary layer. This book was released on 1974 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental program was conducted to investigate effects of roughness, and roughness superimposed on single and/or multiple, shallow, periodic waveforms, on turbulent boundary-layer skin friction and velocity profile, in compressible, adiabatic flow. Test conditions were Mach number = 2.9 and Reynolds number/ft = 2 million to 8 million. The planar models included smooth, sand-grain, machined and molded surface finishes. Direct measurements of surface shear and Pitot/recovery temperature profiles were obtained. (Modified author abstract).
