Download or read book Fatigue Design written by Eliahu Zahavi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-01-22 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern analytical theories of fatigue coupled with a knowledge of processing effects on metals make up the sound basis for designing machine parts that are free from unexpected failure. Fatigue Design: Life Expectancy of Machine Parts provides the information and the tools needed for optimal design. It highlights practical approaches for effectively solving fatigue problems, including minimizing the risk of hidden perils that may arise during production processes or from exposure to the environment. The material is presented with a dual approach: the excellent coverage of the theoretical aspects is accented by practical illustrations of the behavior of machine parts. The theoretical approach combines the fundamentals of solid mechanics, fatigue analysis, and crack propagation. The chapters covering fatigue theories are given special emphasis, starting with the basics and progressing to complicated multiaxial nonlinear problems. The practical approach concentrates on the effects of surface processing on fatigue life and it illustrates many faceted fatigue problems taken from case studies. The solutions demonstrate the authors' detailed analyses of failure and are intended to be used as preventive guidelines. The cases are a unique feature of the book. The numerical method used is the finite element method, and is presented with clear explanations and illustrations.Fatigue Design: Life Expectancy of Machine Parts is an extremely valuable tool for both practicing design engineers and engineering students.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In several industrial fields (such as automotive, steelmaking, aerospace, and fire protection systems) metals need to withstand a combination of cyclic loadings and high temperatures. In this condition, they usually exhibit an amount—more or less pronounced—of plastic deformation, often accompanied by creep or stress-relaxation phenomena. Plastic deformation under the action of cyclic loadings may cause fatigue cracks to appear, eventually leading to failures after a few cycles. In estimating the material strength under such loading conditions, the high-temperature material behavior needs to be considered against cyclic loading and creep, the experimental strength to isothermal/non-isothermal cyclic loadings and, not least of all, the choice and experimental calibration of numerical material models and the selection of the most comprehensive design approach. This book is a series of recent scientific contributions addressing several topics in the field of experimental characterization and physical-based modeling of material behavior and design methods against high-temperature loadings, with emphasis on the correlation between microstructure and strength. Several material types are considered, from stainless steel, aluminum alloys, Ni-based superalloys, spheroidal graphite iron, and copper alloys. The quality of scientific contributions in this book can assist scholars and scientists with their research in the field of metal plasticity, creep, and low-cycle fatigue.

Book Synopsis Effect of Elevated Temperatures on the Low Cycle Fatigue of 2.25Cr-1Mo Steel--Part I by : J. Helešic
Download or read book Effect of Elevated Temperatures on the Low Cycle Fatigue of 2.25Cr-1Mo Steel--Part I written by J. Helešic and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 2.25Cr-1Mo steel was subjected to constant amplitude straining in the temperature interval 22 to 550°C. The conventional low-cycle fatigue properties at 22, 350, 450, and 550°C at constant diametral strain rate ??d = 5 x 10-3 s-1 were measured. The fatigue hardening-softening curves, cyclic stress-strain curves, and Manson-Coffin curves were obtained at each temperature. A detailed study of the cyclic stress-strain response was performed on a computer-controlled electrohydraulic machine. The temperature dependence of the cyclic yield stress was measured using a multiple step test procedure. The stress-dip procedure in cyclic straining was adopted in order to separate the effective and internal component of the cyclic stress. The dependence of both components on temperature and during fatigue life was measured.
Book Synopsis Temperature-Fatigue Interaction by : L. Remy
Download or read book Temperature-Fatigue Interaction written by L. Remy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-03-11 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a selection of peer-reviewed papers presented at the International Conference on Temperature-Fatigue Interaction, held in Paris, May 29-31, 2001, organised by the Fatigue Committee of the Societé Française de Métallurgie et de Matériaux (SF2M), under the auspices of the European Structural Integrity Society. The conference disseminated recent research results and promoting the interaction and collaboration amongst materials scientists, mechanical engineers and design engineers. Many engineering components and structures used in the automotive, aerospace, power generation and many other industries experience cyclic mechanical loads at high temperature or temperature transients causing thermally induced stresses. The increase of operating temperature and thermal mechanical loading trigger the interaction with time-dependent phenomena such as creep and environmental effects (oxidation, corrosion). A large number of metallic materials were investigated including aluminium alloys for the automotive industry, steels and cast iron for the automotive industry and materials forming, stainless steels for power plants, titanium, composites, intermetallic alloys and nickel base superalloys for aircraft industry, polymers. Important progress was observed in testing practice for high temperature behaviour, including environment and thermo-mechanical loading as well as in observation techniques. A large problem which was emphasized is to know precisely service loading cycles under non-isothermal conditions. This was considered critical for numerous thermal fatigue problems discussed in this conference.
