Book Synopsis Effects of Buoyancy Forces on Miscible Liquid-liquid Displacements in Porous Media by : Tianle Guo
Download or read book Effects of Buoyancy Forces on Miscible Liquid-liquid Displacements in Porous Media written by Tianle Guo and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In vertical-upward displacements, buoyancy forces play a negative role since they tend to promote viscous fingering and consequently lower the oil recovery (when $\rm \rho\sb{oil}>\rho\sb{water}$). On the other hand, in vertical-downward displacements, buoyancy forces tend to stabilize the displacement process, and high oil recoveries can be obtained. Comparing the horizontal displacement patterns with those of the two vertical displacements, it was found that buoyancy forces can exert very significant effects on fingering phenomena.

Book Synopsis Advanced Petrophysics: Dispersion, interfacial phenomena by : Ekwere J. Peters
Download or read book Advanced Petrophysics: Dispersion, interfacial phenomena written by Ekwere J. Peters and published by Greenleaf Book Group. This book was released on 2012 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical, fast-paced approach to teaching the concepts and problems common in petroleum engineering that will appeal to a wide range of disciplines Petrophysics is the study of rock properties and their interactions with fluids, including gases, liquid hydrocarbons, and aqueous solutions. This three-volume series from distinguished University of Texas professor Dr. Ekwere J. Peters provides a basic understanding of the physical properties of permeable geologic rocks and the interactions of the various fluids with their interstitial surfaces, with special focus on the transport properties of rocks for single-phase and multiphase flow. Based on Dr. Peters's graduate course that has been taught internationally in corporations and classrooms, the series covers core topics and includes full-color CT and NMR images, graphs, and figures to illustrate practical application of the material. Topics addressed in volume 2 (chapters 5-8) include - Dispersion in porous media - Interfacial phenomena and wettability - Capillary pressure - Relative permeability Advanced Petrophysics features over 140 exercises designed to strengthen learning and extend concepts into practice. Additional information in the appendices covers dimensional analysis and a series of real-world projects that enable the student to apply the principles presented in the text to build a petrophysical model using well logs and core data from a major petroleum-producing province.

Download or read book Porous Media written by F. A.L. Dullien and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the relationship between transport properties and pore structure of porous material. Models of pore structure are presented with a discussion of how such models can be used to predict the transport properties of porous media. Portions of the book are devoted to interpretations of experimental results in this area and directions for future research. Practical applications are given where applicable, and are expected to be useful for a large number of different fields, including reservoir engineering, geology, hydrogeology, soil science, chemical process engineering, biomedical engineering, fuel technology, hydrometallurgy, nuclear reactor technology, and materials science. - Presents mechanisms of immiscible and miscible displacement (hydrodynamic dispersion) process in porous media - Examines relationships between pore structure and fluid transport - Considers approaches to enhanced oil recovery - Explores network modeling and perolation theory
