Ademais, diminuiu a macroporosidade e aumentou a densidade do solo. Presently the utilization of no-tillage system increasing in the Cerrados Region. This system is formed by a sequenced set of activities directed to agriculture sustainability. Continuous no-tillage, however, with frequent lack of straw over the soil in addition to successive superficial fertilizer applications has resulted in some problems such as compaction and superficial nutrient concentration decreasing crop potential yield. Consequently, some farmers have been using moldboard plow to avoid compaction. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of two soil preparation procedures and four crop rotation systems over soil chemical and physical attributes as well as on yield of irrigated common bean planted in the winter. The experiment was conducted for five consecutive years with ten crop seasons in a Dystrophic Red Latosol in Santo Antônio de Goiás; GO in a completely randomized design with four replications arranged in a 2 x 4 factorial split plot. Preparation systems were assigned to plots: (P1) no-tillage followed by plowing and (P2) continuous no-tillage; and crop rotation was assigned to subplots: (R1) millet - common bean - millet - common bean - rice - common bean - millet - common bean - millet - common bean, (R2) millet - common bean - soybean - common bean - rice - common bean - millet -common bean - com - common bean, (R3) millet - common bean - millet - common bean -rice - common bean - com - common bean, and (R4) soybean - common bean - com -common bean - rice - common bean - soybean - common bean com - common bean. Continuous no-tillage contributed to higher values of pH, Ca, Mg, P, K and organic matter in soil surface layer. In addition, it decreased macro porosity and increased soil bulk density. Thus, during the first years cumulated common bean yield decreased with continuous no-tillage in relation to that obtained with no-tillage followed by plowing. This tendency was less strong and reversed more rapidly after the third cultivation year, in crop rotations using millet. So, in average of five cropping years, common bean yield under no-tillage was 13% higher than yield obtained when no-tillage was followed by plowing. Among the rotation systems, the lowest common bean yield was obtained in the rotation that included millet and corn.

Download or read book Sistemas de Preparo de Solo written by O. Coan and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Crop Evolution, Adaptation and Yield by : L. T. Evans
Download or read book Crop Evolution, Adaptation and Yield written by L. T. Evans and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-05-02 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this major 1993 work, Lloyd Evans provides an integrated view of the domestication, adaptation and improvement of crop plants, bringing together genetic diversity, plant breeding, physiology and aspects of agronomy. Considerations of yield and maximum yield provide continuity throughout the book. Food, feed, fibre, fuel and pharmaceutical crops are all discussed. Cereals, grain legumes and root crops, both temperate and tropical, provide many of the examples, but pasture plants, oilseeds, leafy crops, fruit trees and others are also considered. After the introductory chapter, the increasing significance of crop yields to the world's food supply is highlighted. The next three chapters consider changes to crop plants over the last ten thousand years, including domestication, adaptation and improvement. Aimed at research workers and advanced students in crop physiology and ecology, agronomy and plant breeding, this book also reaches conclusions of relevance to those concerned with developmental policy, agricultural research and management, environmental quality, resource depletion and human history.

Book Synopsis Sustainable Living with Environmental Risks by : Nobuhiro Kaneko
Download or read book Sustainable Living with Environmental Risks written by Nobuhiro Kaneko and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-03-11 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are not free from environmental risks that accompany the development of human societies. Modern economic development has accelerated environmental pollution, caused loss of natural habitats, and modified landscapes. These environmental changes have impacted natural systems: water and heat circulation, nutrient cycling, and biodiversity. These changes in natural systems degrade ecosystem services and subsequently increase environmental risks for humans. Environmental risks, therefore, are not only human health risks by pollution, climatic anomalies and natural disasters, but also degradation of ecosystem services on which most people are relying for their lives. We cannot entirely eliminate the risks, because it is not possible to attain zero impact on the environment, but we need to find a mechanism that minimizes environmental risks for human sustainably. This is the idea of the interdisciplinary framework of “environmental risk management” theory, which advocates harmony between economic development and environmental conservation. Based on this theory, the Sustainable Living with Environmental Risk (SLER) programme, adopted by the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) as one of its strategic programmes, has been training graduate students at the Yokohama National University, Japan, from 2009 to 2013 to become future environmental leaders who will take the initiative in reducing the level of environmental risks and in protecting natural resources in the developing nations of Asia and Africa. This book provides students and teachers of this new academic field with a comprehensive coverage of case studies of environmental risks and their practical management technologies not only in Japan but also in developing nations in Asia and Africa.
