Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publishing company has asked me why I wanted to write this book. It is really quite simple. One, I love little children! I love to watch them absorb new lessons and then think about them and apply them as they grow. Secondly, I absolutely love Christmas! I love what it stands for and all the happiness it generates. Theres an old saying that goes Life has a way of getting in the way. That is so true. I have wanted to write this book since I was about twenty. I am now sixty-six! First, you go to work, then you get married, and then children come along. Of course, we had our share of furry and feathered children. At last count, I have had sixteen dogs, three cats, and eight birds. Oh, yes, and then there was Wiggles, our rabbit. Did I mention that I also have two sons and two beautiful granddaughters? They are all of the human variety of course. But Eddie was always in the back of my mind. Its strange that he would usually pop up in the summer of all times! I think it was because we used to have a big garden and Mother Nature was always good to us. We would give our neighbors some of our bounty of tomatoes, peppers, and garlic. That, in a way, was like Christmas because it was like giving them presents. Instead of Eddie, we were the elves for Mother Nature, and she was Santa. There are so many marvelous things in the world, Christmas being one of my favorites. I hope that, when you read my book, you will learn a lot more about where the elves and Santa live. It really is a beautifully happy and busy place. Happy reading and imagining!

Book excerpt: Eddie the Elf lives at the North Pole and works in the Naughty or Nice Department. It is the happiest place on Earth (usually) but Eddie the Elf is worried. That past Christmas, there were more children on the Naughty List than ever before. To add to his worry, Eddie the Elf had stumbled across a 24-hour news channel which showed natural disasters happening all over the world. They were saying that these things were happening because we are robbing our planet of all of its natural products - coal being one of them. Eddie the Elf knew that even at the North Pole they were digging up more and more coal because there were more children on the Naughty List who would receive coal instead of presents. Eddie the Elf had to do something! Eddie the Elf needed to get the children off the Naughty List so they didn't have to mine coal, and help save the planet. Eddie the Elf had a mission, but he didn't just need Santa Claus's help - he needed the whole of the North Pole.

Based on the tradition Carol Aebersold began with her family in the 1970s, this cleverly rhymed children's book explains that Santa knows who is naughty and/or nice because he sends a scout elf to every home. During the holiday season, the elf watches children by day and reports to Santa each night. When children awake, the elf has returned from the North Pole and can be found hiding in a different location. This activity allows The Elf on the Shelf to become a delightful hide-and-seek game.

When young Eddie is falsely accused of destroying the Judge’s chicken coop, he is given one day to find the true culprit. Guided by logic, but entranced by the poetry of the paranormal, Eddie seeks to solve the mystery, along the way meeting Captain Mephisto, a darkly unusual magician who has tricks up his sleeve—and maybe a demon on his back. With help from his Raven and the prodding of a mischievous imp, McCobber, it is no wonder that Eddie grows up to become a master of the macabre. Scott Gustafson crafts a finely wrought portrait that is both humorous and touching. Coupled with his stunning gothic illustrations, Eddie is sure to win fans young and old.
